Installing ScratchR locally

Out of curiosity, how many people successfully (or perhaps not) installed the ScratchR source code on their local machine. I'm trying to make a mini Scratch as I'm typing this.

Re: Installing ScratchR locally

I've attempted a couple of times, but I get many errors like "deprecated". It also seems quite complicated to set up. No simple 'install.php' file to open and run sadly.

There is an INSTALL README, though.

I know, I read through it. It's kind of confusing even then.

I suppose you're right. I think it would be easiest to first try it on a linux, before moving onto Windows/Mac.

Re: Installing ScratchR locally

I think that the software is designed for Linux...

Macs are based off UNIX, though.

Re: Installing ScratchR locally

Maybe I might get it, eventually. I think it might just be easier to do it in an Ubuntu VM.

The only person I've known that was able to get it running was RHY, on Windows.

What server software? IIS, Apache, or something else?

I believe it's Apache (possibly with XAMPP) with memcached and I think a few other things.

OK, I have Apache installed on my Mac, but after looking at the files, I couldn't figure out where they should go.

You're also going to need memcached and all sortsa weird things. See here.

Re: Installing ScratchR locally

Me, too. (obviously) I might have to resort to a VM. Memcache is annoying.

Haha, I found memcached to be the easy part.

Okay, I'm having trouble finding CakePHP 1.1.2. Anyone else having luck with this?

If you checkout ScratchR from root, there is a folder called cake.

Oh, I've been doing it from the other SVN. I'll get cake from that.
