Yeah, I'll make up more islands on Thursday when I get back to class (I can't bring the .max file from school to home because I have 2010 or 2011 or something at school and I have 2009 at home). I can make some water right now though. What dimensions does it have to be? And does it have to be animated? I can make an animation, but I wouldn't know what to send it as to make it a 2D gif or something...
The ship might be more complicated. How detailed do you want it exactly? And how big do you want it in relation to the island? Give me a scale there.
Oh, another thing with the water, I'll try to add in waves and ripples around the islands, but that'll cause some semi-transparency, so hopefully that won't be an issue. Someone had said the "ghost effect" took care of that

Hey I just released a version of my engine that shows kinda what my game will look like. Are you guys thinking similarly?
The map is 1/9 of the full game size and the full version will have much more detailed land, water and buildings.
Ships engine

In comparison to the island, the ship will have to be about 1/8 of the island. There are 3 different ships though.
1. Schooner-1/8
2. Friigate 3/7

Water:

Overlaid with Island for looks:

--> I put in some waves around the island in Photoshop, might be something to add after islands are done (would also require semi-transparency)

That's only 2 ships....
What about the other points I brought up?

Thank you soo much SD7! I'm not sure about the animation yet. I already have the scrolling working with single player and your island implemented. Coolhogs, do you think we should scroll the water along with the islands? Currently, I have the water as a background to the player, and the only scrolling element are the islands. Your creations are perfect. I'll teach you programming if you teach me 3D max. Hahahaha. Okay, also when you do get to making the ships, can you make one where the sails are down and one where the sails are up. I know this is extremely detailed, so don't be rushed by us. And if you can't do it, it's fine. For the third ship I think we should have a galleon, or a Brigantine and they should be 2/7 scale. What do you think coolhogs?
Edit: Coolhogs, great water. But, can you make it fit the entire scratch screen? Can you also make it loopable, meaning able to put it next to another and they will fit together. Thanks

I think it would be best to have the water scroll with the islands. It would look a little fake if the islands were moving and the water wasn't- like you were moving the islands across the top of the water or something.
Also, I just did a quick scale reference. 1/8 was way to dang big, so I reproportioned them. Tell me what you think:

I should be able to make one with sails up and down. It's all from the top-down right? I don't know how detailed you want these, so I'm just going to keep them fairly low-poly, like my ships in Space Game.

Darn awesome! You got it! But can you make the schooner smaller than the others, it goes in this order:
Smallest- Schooner
Medium- Galleon
Biggest- Frigate
Note:
On my side, I have completed the scrolling portion of the game. Along with a map that can be toggled on the bottom left corner.
Now I am working on adding wind to the game.

Great! Can you, SD7 make it like 80% detailed?

That's fine. I was just getting scale in for three different sizes of ships, doesn't matter what each size is called, at least not for the image of them (well, except for looking at what each one looks like).
What exactly do you mean by "80% detailed"? Like, a little less detailed than the ships that were proposed a page or so back? Or what?

It takes me forever to do a decent job when im designing objects and things.
Thanks. I'm ok at code, but it's not my strong suite. I'm aiming for a job as an environment artist for a game studio like Bethesda or somewhere. I'd like to start my own, since I have a pretty good idea for a big game with a bunch of weapons and vehicles and a detailed plot that I thought up, and I want to be able to submit my idea and have a studio work on it, and go in the direction that I want my idea to go, but I don't just want to be an overseer, you know? I still want to be the artist doing all the environments and acting creating stuff.
Also, how exactly are you going to make it an MMO? I've seen mention of a server, but how does that do anything for a scratch program? Will it still be played directly on this site, or what?

Sorry didn't catch this at first, but I think you were actually talking to me, but yes I was just going to ask on the total dimension you need the water to be and then just increase the size of the image and tile it to scale (ie: take the 1x1 I showed and multiply the tiling by 20 or whatever).
In other words, just tell me the total dimensions of the area that needs to have water and I'll give you a final version.

Wow, good luck. You definitely have very good skills in art. About the MMO, Bobbybee is an advanced programmer with knowledge of Python and C, he made a server called Fire MMO that can interact with scratch to create a functional MMO. He already made a chat client with scratch

So this game you're making will run off a separate site? Or can you still play it on the scratch website?
Well, I think the single player version will be able to. But for the MMOG, I'm pretty sure you will have to download it and use it in scratch.
I made a nice little map today
Now you can toggle it with m. Press I for inventory too.

therefor you can use that insted
Hmm, but isn't the firemmo written in python? Wait, you can use cloud variables to make an mmo? That's awesome! I hope it is fast enough.

FireMMO is written in C, the mirror is written in Python, doesn't really matter for you, I guess. And I'm seriously doubting that cloud variables will be powerful enough to support an MMO.

Hmm I see. I doubt that too, everything in scratch is slow compared to other programming languages. Oh, Bobby, are we going to put in chat? Can I make an interface for it? I mean button, chat screen, etc.

Hmm...maybe fully detailed... Make it fully realistic. Like the islands and the water.
