1. Island Scrolling: Doesn't really exist

2. Island interaction with player: MUST be on the server
3. Player Scrolling: Doesn't matter, but it will be 1000x faster to do on the server.
4. NPC AI: Haven't really done to much. However, if it's done on a server I can use a crazy optimized, efficient algorithm that would be impossible to re-create in Scratch
5. Combat System: It's probably easier in Scratch, but I'm afraid of the system being hacked.
6. Wind Direction: It have to be centralized among players, so the server has to do it.
Ok Bobby, since the plan is to convert the single player to multiplayer, I will start work on the scrolling in single player and placing the islands. I know there are many ways to do scrolling, how does your server scrolling increase efficiency? I'd like to know. Also, the water is going to be the background right? And the islands will be set to a position on the entire map based on the x and y scrolling variable. And the player will just change those variables to move around right? That is what I will do. I guess i should just leave the ai out. Hahaha, you got that part. For the rest of the steps, will you easily be able to convert it to multiplayer if i put it in? Thanks.

Why are you guys trying to go with a mmo right from the start? I havent seen any working mmos in scratch yet and every really good mmo must have some single player action. Why dont you guys just try doing a sp version first? I just want to see this project come together as i am doing a similar project right now but more ship oriented.
That's what we are planning, to make a single player version. I just would like to figure out if what i make in single player can be easily converted by Bobbybee. That's why I am asking questions.
It's essentially the same code, the difference is that one is written in C and the other in Scratch. Plus FireMMO takes a lot more patience to use.
I see, so we aren't actually using the scratch project in the mmo? We are just making it then typing up the code from it?

First quick island. Let me know if it's what you're looking for, if you want a more cartoonish look, etc. And I forgot to take out the shadow on the side, so don't use this exact one, I'll re-render it later.

AWESOME! Can you make water now? Make it kind of green and blue... like Google Earth.

No. I'm just saying that C is a billion (maybe not a billion) times faster than Scratch, so if we can utilize it, why not?

Hmm... If we do it on C, I may not be able to help you.

Sorry. Meanwhile, FireMMO is useless without Scratch...so get to work!

What? I didn't understand that. Can you restate that?

It was a partial joke: without something like Scratch, FireMMO is just a program that outputs a lot of funny looking, random data.

Thanks for your help SD7. That island is amazing! We may need a set however. I hope it isn't too much work. For the water, it will just be the background. Thanks a lot!
I can help you with the scrolling if you do the inventory... Also, do we need musicians? Also, do we need more advanced programmers if it is going to be in C

You guys are welcome to use it, its a good place to start, it sounds like you guys just need to get something rolling.
Thanks keeg. Lol i didn't notice you posted this until now. But, I think we will have to use a different way to scroll. Sorry.

I'll probably use something similar on the server.

Itsmomito, can we trade positions? I can do the scrolling and you can help Imagineit with the inventory... I just realized that i hate doing inventories. I'd rather do scrolling.
There isn't exactly much scrolling that needs to be done. The best MMO would be composed of:
Me.
A few artists.
Some ideaists.
And Level Designers.

SD7, I need you to make 5 random-shaped islands, ok? I also need some white clouds, and some dark grey clouds.
Programmers, start working on the single-player mode after SD7 gets done with his clouds and islands.
Also, I need a realistic pirate ship. The ones that Itsmomito linked to, don't quite have the realistic effect I'm looking for.
