How exactly is it going to be an MMO? I didn't know you could make multiple people interact with a scratch project from different computers....
That's why I'm magic...

It's not a sorry thing, it's just the attitude.
Okay so how should I create the scrolling for the server? Isn't it the same? I will make a standard scratch project with the scrolling and then that can be used right?
BTW: A friend of mine volunteered to help be an artist. His name is SD7, he will probably post hereAlso, I found a awesome ship sprite! This can be a model for the one we will make. http://charas-project.net/resources/Cha … 658422.PNG
Great!! We will probably only need the top sprite, since it's a top-view scroller.

Hey, looks like you guys need artists. I'm not so hot at programming, but I can definitely make some pretty stuff. Just let me know what you need and what sort of style you want (quick block 3D, better quality 3D, 2D Photoshop stuff, etc.) and I'll see if I can make it. This is my space game project that itsmomito helped with, that I made all the graphics for:

Wow! You're in!

SD7, I need you to make 5 random-shaped islands, ok? I also need some white clouds, and some dark grey clouds.
Programmers, start working on the single-player mode after SD7 gets done with his clouds and islands.

K since Bobby is going to do the scrolling because he can make it much more efficient, I guess I should work on the inventory and map/island scripts or npcs too. So bobby, the interaction between the player and a island is clientside? Or is it done on the server too? Also, the server controls the loot to the player and the npcs in the game? Or the player? Thanks, just need to know the info. I can make it all single player, but I don't know if you can take that and make it into a mmog like you said.

What kind of top-view are we talking about? Like, completely top view such as this/this? Or more of an angled thing, like this?
And what sorts of graphics are you looking for? Straight-colour PS cartoonish, simple 3D (although would be rendered to 2D, obviously scratch doesn't accept actual 3D), more realistic 3D?

completely top view (let's try simple 3D, rendered to 2D)

Ok, I'll give it a shot. Also, with the clouds, if I make them 3D to match, there might be some transparency, but Scratch doesn't do transparency too well- do you know of a way to get partial transparency working?
Example: my explosions in Space Game had a gradient out to transparent, but scratch replaced the semi-transparent areas with gray and it looked awful, so I had to colour behind it with black (matched the background). Doing something similar would be fairly hard with something where the background isn't a single colour

Does that get rid of the grey it gives to semi-transparency?
Yes. It's a great feature! ;D

First quick island. Let me know if it's what you're looking for, if you want a more cartoonish look, etc. And I forgot to take out the shadow on the side, so don't use this exact one, I'll re-render it later.

So, does a 0 ghost effect result in more grey, or does ) 0 ghost effect make it a look like it does in Photoshop?

Wow, you are a pro! That is a awesome island! Btw, still wondering how to do things. Bobbybee, can you explain to me which of these I can do and which you must do because it is server side? Thanks
List:
Island Scrolling
Island interaction with players
Player Scrolling
Npc Ai movement
Combat System
Wind Direction
Offline
1. Island Scrolling: Doesn't really exist
2. Island interaction with player: MUST be on the server
3. Player Scrolling: Doesn't matter, but it will be 1000x faster to do on the server.
4. NPC AI: Haven't really done to much. However, if it's done on a server I can use a crazy optimized, efficient algorithm that would be impossible to re-create in Scratch
5. Combat System: It's probably easier in Scratch, but I'm afraid of the system being hacked.
6. Wind Direction: It have to be centralized among players, so the server has to do it.

Why are you guys trying to go with a mmo right from the start? I havent seen any working mmos in scratch yet and every really good mmo must have some single player action. Why dont you guys just try doing a sp version first? I just want to see this project come together as i am doing a similar project right now but more ship oriented.

That's what we are planning, to make a single player version. I just would like to figure out if what i make in single player can be easily converted by Bobbybee. That's why I am asking questions.

It's essentially the same code, the difference is that one is written in C and the other in Scratch. Plus FireMMO takes a lot more patience to use.
