I found that in an old project of mine, somebody posted and ended their post with "d**n it" (but without asterisks), and it wasn't censored. Perhaps the Scratch Team should look in to that?

That's never a good thing...

Wait are the missing letters "ar" or "am"?

am. duh
Geesh, I'm just asking >_>
Anyway, I guess it would make sense to censor it on the main site, seeing as it's censored on the forums, although I really don't get how it's such a bad word anyway ._.

Maybe the censorship didn't effect comments posted before it went into effect?

I'm pretty sure it does... Grr it's so hard to put into words why I think that. But like, I think the way it works is that it "writes out" the page, then searches it for any words that are on the censor list, and then replaces them. I realise that didn't make any sense, but it's one of those things where it's hard to explain

Actually, I think the posts are censored as they are posted, so it could be that.
(But not censoring d*** is a known mistake)

My random guess was that it was censored as it was posted. Now that we disagree, lets have a totally irrational and emotional fight.

It's probably best not to post the word, even if it is surrounded by an asterisk or something as it may strike curiosity in the community which isn't a good thing.
As far as people getting past the censor system, I suggest you flag the comments and refrain from replying at all. Sometimes there just isn't a way to stop hackers from finding a way out, so you just have to deal with it another way.

This is something we've debated quite a bit, believe it or not.
It's true that there are some words which are in the forum filter that aren't on the main site filter. It has to do with the fact that the two spaces use different code, but also with policy. Things on the forums are more text heavy, while stuff on the site is a little more project focused. We wouldn't want to censor a project for using the word in question, and really it's not a huge deal in comments either (as long as no one makes a big habit of it). But on the forums, it can get used to heat things up a bit too much. So for now, it isn't allowed there (although we may revisit and reconsider integrating the spaces when we make the move to Scratch 2.0)

If you find a comment with an offensive word, just flag it.
In your case, I'm sure the ST would understand.

Okay, thanks for explaining it!

Maybe the Scratch system thought it was dam, not d**n
