Re: binary! (lol if you can)

Well. With the new lists and the ability to broadcast list items you could simulate an old Altair 8800, which bill gates and steve jobs used to use, and which you originally had to program using a set of binary switches... (search for altair on the google machine and teh internets).

I'm taking a break from Scratch until 2.0 comes out. Any messages sent between then and now probably won't be read - sorry.

I'm guessing they just used an online translator, like this one: http://www.geek-notes.com/tools/17/text-to-binary-translator/

The first column are the ordinary base 10 (decimal) numbers from 1 to 9.  The second column contains the base 2 (binary) equivalents while the last column is the base 6 equivalents.  Why base 6, I'm not sure.  Base 10 is what humans usually use, base 2 is what computers use (on a very low level), base 6 is used by nobody as far as I know!

I remember reading that in the early days of computers (way before teh internets) someone came up with the idea that base Pi would be theoretically the most efficient computer (don't ask, doesn't make sense to me either, given that it's an irrational number), but that spurred a number of researchers (in Russia mostly) building ternary computers.

Also, maybe someone could simulate a base 1 computer in Scratch. Shouldn't be too hard, I suspect  smile

Actually, Base6 is Hexadecimal. But he wrote it wrong.

YOU made a 1-sprite-1-script Asteroids game! I suspect you could make a base 1 computer!

Wait... Isn't it base 2? Because base 1 would be 000000 000 000000000000000000000000000 00 etc, no?
