Blender!

I just started using blender seriously about a week ago. I am learning quickly but still have a long way to go. I was wondering if you guys have any good tips for the use of blender. you can find some of my bledner work at http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/NXTGeek/252787

1. how do you use an image as a material? (not a texure)
2. Is it possible to change a objects material in the animation using keyframes? If so, how do you do it?
3. How can you record mesh changes for you animation?(using keyframes.?)
4.How can you use deflection for objects (Ialready know how to do it for particles.)

P.S. Please explain throughly. I have a think head  smile

Re: Blender!

Good questions.  Congrats on on your work so far, It looks like you're getting it.
There is a TON to swallow- but it's fun!

I found this Googling "blender image texture tutorial"

I found this Googling  "blender texture keyframe tutorial" The short answer is "...create keyframes for the texture offset by pressing I with the mouse cursor over the material buttons..."  just put your mouse on the attribute you want to change.  Also take a look at the "IPO" window.  (change the modeling window or change your screen to "Animation"
You can change to many types IPO's on the right of that window.  The tab works the same as it does in the 3d view port, Tab to enter and exit edit mode, then you can move the curves around.  Go through this tutorial.  (found googling "blender animation tutorial IPO")

NXTGeek wrote:

Shape keys tutorial.

You can "bake" animation from the game engine.

I hope that helps.  I hope I didn't sound rude by suggesting to "Google it!!!" but really that's your best teacher if you can ask the right questions.  The last two questions were harder, you would have needed to know about "shape keys" and "baking".  I would suggest getting to know the blender community, ask questions at www.blenderartists.org
Keep blending and scratching.  smile

Re: Blender!

DarthPickley, Blender is difficult but rewarding to learn.

There is a getting started pdf that comes with it, that has the hot-keys and basic features.

I bet you can learn it faster and easier than me, because now there's video tutorials, online books and the community is very large.

You can ask for help here:
http://blenderartists.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=7
http://blenderartists.org/forum/

video tutorials:
http://www.totallyblended.com/Tutorials.html
http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=106503

book, more tutorials:
http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Blender_3D:_Noob_to_Pro
http://blenderartists.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=32

also, use google and ask for help when you get stuck.

BUT you'll really only learn to use a tool. Blender is JUST A TOOL like a pencil.
A very complicated pencil.  But really all it does is draw 3d pictures to your 2d screen fast.  But you could do that with a pencil or paint.

There's plenty of people that know how to use 3d programs, fewer of them also know good art and design.

If you want to learn to be a GOOD artist or animator, hang out with artists and animators:
http://forums.cgsociety.org/
http://www.11secondclub.com/

Immerse yourself in good work, then try to figure out how they did it.  Learn the principles, -train your brain to make good art by practicing good art.

Re: Blender!

Blender is awesome. I made this maze thing with it, and an airplane. Hold on, I have pictures

If anyone wants to know how to make a ball move, just make a new plane, then add a UV Sphere. Right click the Sphere and press F4 then add all of the things and set it to rigid body. After that you put it to keyboard. Hold on a sec.

Here is how you make it move

It's like that, and DownArrow is -10 x and so on.

If you guys can't see the full picture, go to image shack. I put these on Blade-Edge's account since I don't have one. His image shack username is Therealbladeedge
