Re: Upgrading the laptop at last :P

How can you possibly say that Win7 and WinVista are cheap plastic looking and not say the same thing about WinXP with its green start button and blue bar at the bottom? I like the look of Win7, but not Vista. Vista is all around failure.

Windows 7 and Vista are horrible, cheap laptops. XP is stable and well made, but nothing amazing. If I had to pick one, it'd be XP, but I'd rather have Mountain Lion by far.  big_smile

One does not simply... Buy MacOSX.X. You need a Mac regardless, so whatever premium they have on that software is made up for in the hardware.

You forgot Hackintosh  tongue

But seriously, you could build a PC, but you'd have to pay 200 for a Windows OS!

Buy a Mac and you don't pay for any OS.

Buy a preinstalled Windows PC and you're paying a little extra for the OS.

OS X looks like plastic just as much as Win 7 and Vista. Also (at your latest post), you can't convince me that the price of OS X isn't hidden inside that (ridiculously huge) amount of money you pay for a Mac.

@stevetheipad: Horrible, no way. That is what OS X is. Cheap......cheaper than a Mac (which is the EXACT same hardware. You pay double or triple for a flimsy feeling 1/16 inch scrap-aluminum case).

But I still am disappointed at the screen resolution on the 13" MBP.

Replace "created" with "engineered". I can promise that the factory making those unibody cases don't exactly hug the cases and give them a goodnight kiss.

For lovingly and beautifully engineered, this (the 2011 version of my laptop) or this, (2008 version), which is what I have.

No offense, but an HP is in no way going to beat a Mac at anything other than gaming. HP tends to make a cheap looking box, get all the hardware from everybody else and just use a Windows 7 license, and call it theirs.

That's the beauty of an Apple device: everything is made together, they don't have separate departments, they all chip in to create great hardware and software.

For the last freaking time, MACS USE THE SAME HARDWARE AS PCS!!!! They don't make their own CPUs, GPUs, or anything else. They get their hardware from other companies (and the same ones as PC makers, shall I add). The only things about a Mac that are designed by Apple are the case, OSX, keyboard, and maybe trackpad (though all the unneeded and unuseful gestures are likely in code, using a normal trackpad).

The only piece of Apple software that is anywhere decent is Garageband. The rest, like iTunes and Safari.... *throws up in corner*

@16Skittles: Don't forget LG. They make the displays in 90% of Apple products.  wink

Re: Upgrading the laptop at last :P

I agree screen resolution could be higher in the 13" Macbook Pro, but it's not bad compared to some PCs... and seriously, that laptop wasn't beautifully created. No offence.

And Macs don't always use the same hardware as PCs.

Re: Upgrading the laptop at last :P

Let's see... Processors: All made by Intel
GPUs: Made by Nvidia and AMD
SSDs: Here's a real issue- some are made by Samsung, others by Toshiba. Depending on your order, they are randomly different! There are even some debates on whether one has better performance than the other.
etc...

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

And they pretty much do, like 16Skittles just said. There maybe different brands in the lesser chips (like USB support, and north/southbridge), but there are that in between different PC makes and models.

Processors and stuff, sure they're same... but when it comes to speakers, displays and cases, Apple's are so much better, even though they ask other companies to make them.

They have a very high standard.

Not usually, but iMac speakers are good.

I usually use my headphones anyway...

But when I use the internal speakers... they could beat any cheap logitech add-ons :3

I dunno, I've heard some pretty impressive Dell laptop speakers. And speakers, displays, and cases can be chosen by the PC user when they're buying it. You can pretty much get it to look however you want because there's such a large variety of makes.

Really? Well, with speakers, you really get what you pay for. I've seen medium spec 15" laptops that exceed $2000 because of their "Beats" speakers.

With a desktop, you certainly get more choice, but it still comes down to that, with speakers, you get what you pay for.

I'm not meaning watts, or volume, I talking quality of sound.
