Classroom Environments

I teach in a very conservative catholic elementary school district that does not allow students to use social networking sites unless there is a way to keep our student's information and identity private. Will this Scratch 2.0 be completely Web based and if so, will it be open like many Social networking environments? If not, I see that you will continue to have an offline version. Will this version have the same basic features as the online one, save collaboration and such.

Re: Classroom Environments

Scratch 2.0 will have a new online look, as well as a way to make a project online. However, you can still make projects using the software.

The site itself will continue to be similar as far as features, so I'd say yes, it will be similar to a social networking community.

However, a user can choose how open they are about information. Like you don't have to publish a project or make an account, and you'll still be able to make projects and show them in a class. And even if you do have an account and upload projects, you can make up a username, birthdate and such and choose to not interact with the rest of the community.

Re: Classroom Environments

I have scratch at my school, and you don't need to put projects online. Also, some schools have restrictions so it takes away the "share" menu which uploads a project online. Plus, you need an account to do that.
Also, Scrath isn't a chat place, and it says that in many places. That's what Facebook is for. This is a project making community. Scratch does not require Internet access(except when you download it onto your computer) hope his informed you I the safety of scratch.
Also, as you asked before, there are links to fertile you're project on Facebook, etc. but, instead of coming to me for help you should check out the scratch wiki and support page.
