I cringe to post this image, it's compressed beyond recognition, but here you go:
This looks much better in the actual game. The red/yellow/green is a gradient of the lightest shade. Here's the actual background.

you're not necessarily too late, but you'll have less time to create your project.
Update on mine: Wow. I can't believe the stupid mistakes I was making before on an old game. Found a much easier, more efficient way now. I have two classes, 8 textures, and about 300 LOC. I have completed the scrolling now, so I need to do just a few more things.
1.) Make the tiles do something/end sequence
2.) Create the levels
3.) Finish the load level code
I think I can do that all before Mini LD!

RAGE!!! RAAAAAAAGEEEEEEEE! I was getting a huge error, then I realized that in a for() loop I was trying if x>lines when x was 0 and lines was > 0 >.> If there is anything I've learned it's that I need to be more careful. I spent at least half an hour debugging a simple mistake where the code did exactly what I told it to. -.-

This is nearly every texture in the game!
top row from left to right: Normal walkway, Bunker, Locked door
Middle: player (he's only 16*16, kind of small)
Bottom: Kony 2012 poster (small chance of appearing because it's a post-apocalyptic, dysfunctional city), Solid pathway (blocker), Key stone (opens locked doors to open up new places)
I now need to probably code a level editor so I don't need to try and custom do every one...
