Doesn't it give credit anyway???

Personally, I'm not so fond of the entire "remix" system, because it is a form of plagiarism. A Scratcher can work weeks on a project, and the only thing another has to do is copy it as a remix and give credit, and ultimately they're not blamed for plagiarism. I dont think it is fair.

Tsunami_Enterprises: what's to lose if someone remixes your project with no changes? It's certainly not the most creative thing to do but people will know you created it first.

Well I would give credit where it is due not just steal it
Play Bratz Games!

Click on the link that says "some rights reserved." You will find it on any project's page. When you read it, you will see that mina just used your recipe to make her own cake. In fact, the recipe for pong is so widely used that you can hardly call it yours.

I'm pretty sure if as long as the copy-cat credits the original guy, I think it's ok. ( but if they mess with the code, and make it impossible to play, I wouldn't want to be the creator.)
My first time ever talking on Scratch! XD I feel so good now....

No matter what I take from a project, be it a half-second sound effect, I will always put credit to the origional author. Unless I forget who it's from though.... XD
And I do not think chaging a background makes anything yours... unless it was the background that was the whole project. And yea... it's lame lol.

copying code should be allowed, because the ability to learn from others is the essential thing that separates humans from animals. however credit should be given where it is due

And that's exactly why we allow people to download projects and remix them!

I think that you should be able to easily save / copy & paste scripts into a different project. Maybe an inter-window drag n' drop interface?
You mean like opening 2 projects in different windows. I always do that with my browsers, and would love that with Scratch too

Yeah, and say you have a script in one project and would like it in another (maybe if you want to take something from a tutorial), just drag it into your other window! And at least (I know you can do this on PCs but not macs) let you open more than one window!

Nope. It's easier on Macs to do this. Very easy. Anyways, it would be great, but make sure you give credit!

It would make it easier it some instances; though, I often like to recreate the scripts myself so I can learn why it works and will be able to make the script by myself from then on. Right now, you can just put all the scripts you want on one sprite and export the sprite- it will take a bit longer, but still works.

No, I mean in Scratch you can only open one window at a time. I know about the whole drag n' drop thing on macs. They just don't have it for Scratch.

True, but I think it would be a whole lot easier to extend the Scratch app beyond the window's boundaries.

Yeah, ive had this happen to me before, and to make it even worse, the same project notes are still there! That got me really ticked off. The only thing that person has done is change the title.

Hello Jamie,
Well... Scratch is a place where we can learn from others!
If you don't want others to copy you then don't advertise! (I mean post your games)
Scratch let's you use other's games to help scratchers learn more!
Of course taking the whole thing and making it their own isn't that nice.
BUT!!!! If you take someone else's game and change things around and they post it then there is a little thing when you post saying that it has been inspired by "Such and such" And will put a link to your game!
That's what I like about Scratch is that they STILL give you the right to your games!
For example I created a game like yours. Ping pong thingy.. Let's say it's called ping pong.
Then someone comes around and likes the idea.
They would download it and change the scripts and maybe the sprites a little... Then they would post it on to the website.
There will be a link saying it has been inspired by Jamie.
Then you can visit Jamie's game.
So it's still yours but it has been inspired by someone else.
If you don't like that then DON'T share your creations. I think of that alot to myself also. But people tell me not to share it then... Even though I want to share but I don't like plagiarism... But you can't do anything about it soo...

Ilike srach it is fun

i think you should be able to look at other peoples projects and be able to have the boolean editable or not so that the creator chooses. I sometimes download someones project for a sprite, use the sprite in my game then give credit for thier work in it and i usually ask the creator before i use the sprites.

I think that a project exactly copied should not be allowed. That is plagerism. I don't care if someone changes it in anyway, then its fine. I don't like the people who just download it and then upload it without even changeing the comments or title. Thats just lazy. Unfortunatly, I heard that one such project got on top viewed from me for a short period of time and that is just wrong!

Look at j0ker's account. HE STAMPS PEOPLE'S PROJECTS!!!!!! Sorry, this was supposed to be posted by alexpja.

Is it allowed if someone takes your game, changes the theme, then calls it "their creation"? Because I created a game called "Pong 2.1" and a week later, a user called "mina" redid the background, and called "her creation" and I am really annoyed with her for taking credit for MY game, I just want to know if it is a Scratch rule if you can slightly alter a game and call it yours.
Jamie
MY GAME: Pong 2.1
MINA'S GAME: Wack-Pong
Sorry To Hear That. Bummer. Plagiarism Isn't A Prob For Me Though. I'd Just Let It Go And Feel Happy That Someone Remixed My Project!
