Re: Accents :P

This is how I sound more or less:
I don't rilly get thuh Uhmerikin aksence yoo guyz are trying to tipe fonetikally. This iz how I tock. I say "idea" as in "eye-dee-uh", not "ideer". Wut eevin. Just like there'z diffurint kinds of Bridish, like Kokknee et cedera, there'z diffurint kinds of Uhmerikin.

Actually I'm not sure I did a good job of showing my "Uhmerikin aksent"
I have a voice recorder though
But I'm technically supposed to be studying

Australian accent and british cockney are similar though.

I FORGOT.

You think they are pointless until they aren't even in the word! "Riposte to earn my respect, Reginald" would have like barely any R sound from what I've heard and then all the sudden, "I've got an idear" 'I carn't do that"

(And Liru, how do we say Dog any differently than it is spelled?)

And uh, I know I like seriously stereotyped you guys right there but this has to be on of the more insulting threads I've read.

"I have no idea(r) what the American archived papers say but I'll say something about being against freedom and act like I know more anyway!"
"NO AMERICANS PRONOUNCE ANYTHING CORRECT BOYS"

Well, I prefer the british pronounciation, no offence :3

Say dog. Now say laugh. See how it sounds very similar? In the british/aussie pronunciation they sound completely different. The o in dog sound like the o in oil, but without the twist of the i at the end  smile

I'm from America.  It sounds like "dog" and "laf."  Completely different.

Re: Accents :P

I'm Irish and the irish accent has become a bit of a stereotype. I could say all americans are fat if you want to go there.

The South African english accent is pretty near the british though, I've been to Cape Town many times. The Afrikaans accent on that videojug place is completely wrong, the accent depends on which area you come from and how bilingual you are. For example, I know that people from the northern parts of south africa have a springy english accent, while the lower part, the Cape Town area has more british roots.

Re: Accents :P

For the record I say dog with an o like 'dot' and don't say any Rs unless they start a word and am British.

This topic is getting pretty nationalist and in some cases offensive, but they're basically the same thing.

Im Irish too and I completley agree, like pretty much every country has a different accent but a lot people stereotype it into one.

Some people just do it for fun, or work, the person who plays Rainbowdash in MLP also plays Applejack, so if nobody was allowed to speak in different accents RD would have a country accent or AJ wouldn't.

There's a line between mocking and recreating.

Have you heard someone interpreter and indian, french ect. accent? It is usually really offensive, mostly because when someone imitates an accent they say something mocking the culture.
