I can do a pretty good German accent. And speak it...

And also, I'm from Wisconsin. I say world like "whirled".

Yawn, another boring text signature. I should really make something better.

I did tell you that there is no such thing as an American accent because usually different states and cities have different ways of enunciating things. Not like every American suddenly drops the "wo" sound in world.  neutral

If you really want to pin down an American accent, then do the research on American phonetics first.

Good idea... but kinda hard to say to someone, "I'm going to do a philiadelphian accent" especially in australia where noone knows the states  tongue

I'm not sure what my accent is. I guess it's a lot more English than Scottish though, despite me being Scottish.

Then why not say something like "I'm going to do a Philadelphian American accent?" You might as well teach your fellow Australians about the states instead of continue a generalized assumption that everyone in America speaks the same way.  hmm

What most people think of a generalized American accent is really Midwestern American English that's spoken in something like 3 or 4 states out of 50 - the only reason why it's considered to be general is that this is usually the dialect that is used in accent reduction classes because it's considered to be the most clear with enunciation and supposedly pleasant (on a side note, it's also the dialect that most American newscasters are forced to learn because of it's clarity). So if you're using Midwestern American English as a generalized American accent, it's a lot less unclear than what you assume. Again, research on phonetics first before trying to imitate an accent.

Re: Accents :P

I don't really have an accent, well, I do to others who aren't English. But I'm sure Americans don't have an accent to people with the same accent, but watching the new MLP ep on a livestream made me laugh because of the adverts, I was on Skype watching it with someone else (also English) and we both starting laughing uncontrollably at the "Ah made it mahself" guy on the pizza advert (which was really weird, why were all the peperamis in neat rows?). I was picking up on the country accent (I used to live on the very southern coast), I was getting the London accent, but now I'm getting the scouse one (someone from Liverpool has moved in) which makes me sound like Lister at times and sometimes I will find it hard to actually say anything because of the accent.

Actually, different states (and even different cities) usually have different way of enunciating things. The turning of T sound into D sounds is pretty prevalent in New York City, not so much outside of New York City, for example.

Really? I didn't know that, see how uninformed and generalising I am?

A general image of how foreigners see americans though... sadly  tongue

It's better than foreigners believing we're all from the Jersey Shore.

Hopefully you don't have Jersey Shore in Australia.

(By the way, sorry mods. I had no idea that was a swear in the UK. It's fine here in America, so I apologize.)
