Hey guys, recently i sent a message to scratch team and they said to ask hear,
Basically i have panther and panther2EXE which allows me to make the games ive made standalone without the program, so i could put them on a disk etc...
Could i sell the games i have made and burnt to a disk?

Short Answer: No.
Long Answer, You cannot profit from a Panther-based project because Panther itself is based on Scratch and therefore bound by the Scratch Terms-and-conditions. This states that any derivative of Scratch must remain open-source, credit Scratch and be bound by the creative commons liscence. Therefore any games you package and make cannot be sold, but they can be given away free, for example to promote your company.

Any derivative of the Scratch software. As long as Scratch is credited, I think it might be legal. I think we need an ST answer on this though; questions similar to this one come up a lot.

Well, selling Scratch projects is legal, so I'd assume the same for Panther. :S
If you want to read about that, there's a nice thread over here.

I'm pretty certain it's still not allowed. You are distributing the Scratch derivative Panther with your game. The Panther2EXE simply runs the Panther image in a Squeak VM in fullscreen only. This means you are still distributing the Panther platform, even if editing the code is locked.

I was ABOUT to say I agree, HOWEVER, P2S (new nickname for paddle2see) says otherwise!

Scratch and panther's images are still free.
Shorter answer: You are selling the game file, the image and such come with it for free.

But if you include a license against hacking open the software, there's no legal way to access the Panther interface within the .EXE, is there?
EDIT: See Pecola1's post one up from here.

If you make a way to play games without Scratch, sell all you want. Else, nothing.

Yes, you can sell your panther project or do whatever else you want with it. If you distribute Panther with your project (so people can play without downloading Panther separately), you must follow the terms of the license regarding Panther itself, not your project. Your project can have whatever license you wish, including one in which you don't allow distributions and derivative works.

What he's saying is that you can do whatever you want with the project file, such as obscure it, sell it for money or whatever, but you have to abide to what the panther/scratch license says about distributing the actual scratch program, which may mean putting it as a seperate and free download.

Actually, you don't have to even make it a separate download. What I meant above is that you can distribute, say, MyProject.zip, with these files
/Panther/Panther stuff…
/Panther/Source/Panther source…
/MyProject.exe
/MyProject.app
/MyProject.pt
/License.txt – your project's copyright notice and Panther's license, e.g.:
Copyright © Whoever 2012. All rights reserved.
MyProject is written in Panther, an open-source modification of Scratch from the MIT media lab.
Panther's copyright info and license...

From my understanding, you can sell the game, just not Scratch, because it's an open source.
So they can pay for the game, not Scratch itself

Try using ToJar. It produces a very nice window.
Selling scratch projects is completely legal, but if you are using Panther, be sure to credit it somewhere
As well as Panther2EXE

P2S isn't a new nickname for him, lol.
And yep, that's what you're doing.

But I hope you realize many people have been using it before you...
And yes, you are supposedly allowed to sell games, but I don't think you'd want to. The knowledge should be a big enough reward.

I wish I could think of a way to sell them
And yes, people have been using P2S for a long time

If you do sell it, then dont make people pay extra for Panther2EXE or panther.image or whatever. Just make them pay for the game.
You might want to use a made with scratch/panther image on the back.
