EDM (electronic dance music) is my favorite genre of music. Ranging from electro house to dance to dubstep, it is just great in my opinion. 3 years ago I saw a video called "Weekends" by Skrillex. I checked it out, and it was a good song. I found out that Skrillex was a new dubstep/electro house producer, and I really liked him. I continued liking his music until about last year.
With the release of some singles, and the eventual release of Bangarang EP, Skrillex has gotten pretty bad. I guess when he went mainstream, he changed his music to appeal to people who don't know good EDM.
Do you agree? Disagree? Do you think this has happened in a different case in the EDM world?

This is also a place to discuss all things EDM, such as music, producing, and DJing.

Here in Chile pretty much anyone who listens to Skrillex is a poser who only knows that artist (it's not a group, amirite?). So yeah, I have to agree.

Yes, an artist, and thank you.
Looking up the aphex guy now....

if you are a fan of electronic music and you don't know and (at least) respect his contributions to the genre then you aren't an electronic music fan

Looks like we have another discussion topic (BTW listening to him right now, really good tbh)
And going back, just because I haven't heard of him doesn't make me not an EDM fan. I've heard songs by guys like Daft Punk and Black Dog that many fans haven't. I know a lot about the genre as well, so I can only really thank you for letting me know about a legend.

I actually like the song "Bangarang" on the new EP.
But still, Skrillex is kind of overrated. In my opinion, the most underrated dubstep/techno musician and producer is probably Excision.
Keep in mind, though, Skrillex doesn't only do dubstep.

Excision is pretty good, but yes, underrated. And the thing about Skrillex, is yeah, he doesn't really make much dubstep. Technically, most of his songs are electro house.

Yeah, bands would rather go mainstream and make money rather than good music

I don't really listen to electronic, my knowledge of skrillex is that they/he/she featured on a new Korn song.

Dubstep isn't music, sorry.
Just putting that out on the table.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dubstep
notice how it says dubstep is a genre of music in the first sentence.

dubstep is definitely music, but it's not necessarily enjoyable for all
