Re: Windows 8

I think it's great.  It's getting a good bit of negative feedback, but I think this is just because it's one of the biggest changes in OS's we've ever had.  I expect that once people come to terms with the change, pretty much everyone will love Windows 8.  It will be interesting to see a newer generation getting used to this kind of stuff.

@roijac_test: Wrong.  There's a Desktop Metro App which is pretty much Windows 7, but with some new features and minor restyling (the corners are less rounded, for example) such as the disappearance of the familiar Start Menu (hovering the mouse where it used to be will bring you to the Metro screen).  It's pretty much Windows 7 over there.  This is what Apple should have done, letting users stay with a familiar old OS while they get used to the new one.

@NeilWest: Windows 8 is just a codename.  It'll get a new one when it's fully released.  The codename for Windows Vista was Longhorn!

Okay, first of all, Microsoft is pioneering into a tablet era in which computers and tablets share the same OS, meaning that they are user-friendly and at the same time powerful.  It will be pretty different- I mean, we're saying goodbye the Windows icon in the bottom left, and saying hello to the modern Metro system.  A lot of programmers will jump at Windows 8, as, unlike Apple, Microsoft is right where the programmers are in terms of programming: it will allow HTML5 programming for Metro apps (but don't worry, too, because that's not all you can use, and there's still a desktop)!  Also, unlike Apple, Windows 8 doesn't force people onto totally new ground, having a Desktop metro app, so that some of us can go straight to the new stuff, and a lot of us can stay behind for a little while in the desktop, until we get happily used to the Metro.  Also, Windows 8 is not an unoriginal name; it's a codename, and we have NO idea what the name will be yet.  If it helps put things into perspective, the codename for Windows Vista was Windows Longhorn!  And yeah, Windows Pulse sounds epic; Microsoft should really use it.

I need to get all the copies, and burn them.

Windows, you need a new name.

Maybe "Windows Fail Whale"
