I'd rather spend $300 dollars to get a mobile device AND OS rather than just an operating system that they spam you with updates every five hours.  smile

Also, until Microsoft comes up with something good to compete with the MP3, phone, and tablet industry, Apple is about 3 steps ahead of them.

EDIT: It's also fun to note I'm typing this from my $499 iPad rather than my $2000 dollar laptop that runs Windows.

Re: Windows 8

Used the developer edition of Windows 8. I went straight back to my trusty Vista Basic after an hour.

Windows 8 will only work well on a tablet. It should be called Windows tablet or something.

Re: Windows 8

Ok, I have downloaded the preview. Let me tell you: It's god darn awful. The metro (Window's phone, Xbox 360 etc) start menu is the biggest offender. If you don't have a touch screen, or even if you do, then you'll find it like a console interface.

As for the rest, it's a carbon copy of Windows 7 with a few things taken away.

So yeah  big_smile

Re: Windows 8

I think Windows 8 will be great on tablets, phones, touch-screen PCs thanks to it's easy-to-use interface, but for mouse-controlled PCs and laptops, there is going to be a design flaw.

Re: Windows 8

It will fail.

Windows 7 gave everyone a reason to dump XP, and was hugely successful.

2 years later, you are telling people to switch again? Not gonna happen.

Re: Windows 8

Windows 8 looks more like OLOLOLOLOLOLOL SMARTPHONES than an desktop OS to me. I'd rather just use Android (free, open-source and already pretty popular) on tablets, smartphones and the such, and Windows 7 for desktop PCs and laptops.

That, and from what I've heard it's pretty awkward to use with a mouse and keyboard.  tongue

Re: Windows 8

The only reason I torrented Windows 7 and installed it, is because I want to have a backup when Microsoft obsoletes not so bad OSs and goes "forward" with REALLY bad OSs.

Oh, and how much does Windows 7 cost again? $300? $400? I'd rather get an iPod that comes with software AND hardware for that much money.

Oh, and don't say that I'm rambling about something I have no knowledge of.

I downloaded the alpha and used it for about 2 months.

And um.... how many versions of OSX are there? 1?

How many versions of Windows 7 are there? 6? 7???

Maybe they'll have 8 versions in Windows 8 :3

Windows 8 will have nine versions. Windows 7 had 6 but only three were widely available, with the others being for specialised purposes. That's a reason why there are so many versions; you don't need to pack it all in together.

Re: Windows 8

w8 is cool if you have touchscreen and use only one app at a time.
other ppl will find it the biggest fail since bing
i mean,  you can't show the browser along with another program together! -.-

meanwhile, on linux...
maybe some day unity even will become stable  smile
