My dad likes it

I've heard of it! I think that was one of my options for my reading group in 4th grade, but I chose the other book

We had to read it for school. It was good, except for the worksheets they gave us about it. For the project we had to do, I wrote a soundtrack for 5 of the chapters.

It's about a bunch of British schoolboys who get dumped on an island in a plane crash, with no adults, no rules, and no contact with the rest of humanity, and what happens to them.

Funny to think JJROCKER is older than me.
Anyway, my brother had to read that the summer after 8th grade.
He didn't like it.

Yeah, it's not that great.
My teacher keeps saying to the class that he purposely makes it confusing to make you feel what the characters are feeling.
I just think the person who wrote it was a bad writer

I'm being forced to read it in 8th grade 0_0
I know apparently I read at a very high level...
It might have been something else though

Maybe you're thinking of Lord of the Rings

Lord of the Rings is longer and written in that weird way.
I would expect LotF over LotR

Lord of the Rings/Flies...
Sounds similar.
Anyway, I read them both today.

No, from what I hear he's a very good author. I actually appreciate the way he did that--it really makes me think (not much in school does ).

I don't think it was lord of the flies because it had this Native American dude on it.
EDIT I meant flies OOPS

William Golding is a great author.
Also I'm surprised you're reading it in the 8th grade, it's pretty much a book you read in high school.

I had to read it in 7th grade, actually.

I don't think that he "purposely makes it confusing"
Personally, I really liked the writer's style, he's got some really strong mental imagery and the emotions were pretty incredible
There was this one passage about how "he became fear"... I don't remember it verbatim but it was just really good, for lack of a better description
*Spoilers*
I foresaw that Piggy was going to die though, when they started killing the pigs, 'Kill the pig, cut her throat, bash her in' O-o
Sad. Piggy was the best character
(I said that to my brother and he says Piggy was the worst character, probably just to annoy me)

That book is so NOT a fourth grade book. It's kind of old-fashioned, but it's a really interesting book. Some parts are kind of creepy, though.

My mum won't let me read it

I was given an option to read it for my 9th grade book report. I chose The Hobbit instead.
