Well, why?

Because the e-mail address could be abused. Considering that many of the users who use this site are underaged, sharing e-mails is a bad idea on this site.

What if its an e-mail, meant for scratch, like an email for your scratch account!

Same reason you wouldn't on any other sites.

I have one of those, and where needed, I'll quietly comment it to the user I want to tell it to.

Any sharing of email is bad. It opens you up to potential spammers.

Someone could then start harassing and abusing you, and you'd have no way to prove it was them.

Ever heard of 'mark as spam'?

Ever heard of "being so determined to harass someone you create multiple emails"?
(That didn't work did it? ._.)

It's not a good idea to share email anywhere.

-_-
Seriously?
It should be not recommended, NOT not allowed at all.
I don't have Skype, Messenger, AIM, nothing but e-mail to contact people privately.

They wouldn't get sued. It's not their fault. And also, predators don't find out where people live just from getting an email.

It's not against the rules. They just don't recommend it.

no trust me they could. they would win (easily) but they would by somebody. and of course you can. theyve gone some intense creeper tech that can track ips at which email addresses are most frequently used, or were made (obviously the former is more likely more accurate)

It's dangerous. Some hacker could find your email address. Then, they could find out a lot more about you by simply taking 3 minutes to search your email address. You wouldn't want that to happen, would you?

No, they wouldn't get sued. They provided the service that they shared it with, but it's not their fault that the email was shared.

I think part of the point is that they don't want to promote private communication because they can be blamed for things that happen over it.

people always blame somebody
and most people that share their email address on here not knowing the consequences are probably young; and also have parents. parents are protective and will want it to be somebodys fault.

What do you want me to do?
Make my parents sign a piece of paper and I fax it to the ST using a PDF faxer?

i think the reason is that if someone finds out your email, they'll ask for personal information, such as ur age, phone number, where u live, etc. and will count as continous spam. Once they get ur personal information they may bully u, spread the email to other people, and probably learn all ur personal info.
