Will I be able to test Scratch 2.0 at the Scratch Day 2012 in Chicago?

This (and the other related ones about other Scratch Day locations) is a good question! I have to talk it over with other ST, and see if we can manage it. On my list, but it may take a little while to get back to you - please be patient!

A problem with this is any scratcher could register saying they're organizing an event, go to resources, download scratch 2.0 tester for scratch day then delete scratchday account and just use it. Couldn't they?

Re: Scratch 2.0 Project Page and Project Editor

Hi my name is Hayden and this is what i think,
i love the look of Scratch 2.0! YAY!
Few things that i wanna ask:
The New way that the buttons are put looks a bit confusing.
One of the things i love most about the new release is that you can make your own blocks to do things!
I CAN'T WAIT FOR IT TO COME OUT!
The new look of the green flag looks streamlined.
All looks streamlined, etc.
You may want to have a look at the image below.
Anyway, i was wondering if Scratch 2.0 will open the projects with the 1.4 projects?
Answer the question in your comments please.

I TOTTALY KNOW THAT SCRATCH 2.0 IS STREAMLINED LIKE INTERNET EXPLORER NINE!

Yes, 2.0 will be able to open projects from older versions of Scratch.
Oh, and did you mean Firefox 4-current? IE doesn't look streamlined at all. [/offtopic]

Does anybody know why that swirly icon was chosen to show remixes? Mokat thought it might be because of the remix visualization, how it's sort of swirly... sometimes.  tongue

I really like the new layout! It seems a lot nicer, sleek, and easier to work with! *claps*

Re: Scratch 2.0 Project Page and Project Editor

I am wondering, is there any (if any at all) samples or trials or alpha versions for Scratch 2.0 that I can download? If so, comment me on one of my projects and give me a link to the download!

Well there's the Experimental Viewer, but that's long outdated. You can still use it, though.

Re: Scratch 2.0 Project Page and Project Editor

Those screen shots were really interesting... Will you be using the same forums for 2.0? But for the backpack, clipboard is to old. Backpack is original, therefore I think its way better.

I don't really like the style of the website though. The current website has a happy, easy and welcoming, but the one in the picture looks like it is for really advanced people. Like, if an 8 year-old went on there cause his 11 year-old friend said it was a simple programming language he would like, and see this smooth, proffesional-looking website, I think he would be thinking "AAAHH! It looks so complicated!", even though its not. Looks are the most deceiving things that exists.

I might soun- no, I probably sound crazy :-/ but still...

Its only my opinion.

Re: Scratch 2.0 Project Page and Project Editor

the project editor is completely messed up.   I mean, everything is reversed- the stage, and costumes is on the other side, and the scripts/costumes/sounds is on the opposite side.  What was wrong with the way it was?

It makes more sense this way with the look inside button.

solution: flip the website!

Re: Scratch 2.0 Project Page and Project Editor

Hi,
I've only just discovered Scratch and I'm looking forward to trying it out in a primary school that I volunteer in (I'm a software architect the rest of the time!).

I have just heard 2.0 is running purely from the cloud and I have to say this is a terrible idea, not everyone has permanent web access, including many schools! There has to be an offline app for those who can't be connected 100% of the time. What about third world countries who want to use it on a device such as the Raspberry Pi?

Please rethink this, otherwise I fear you are about to undo a lot of the good work you have already done.

Paul.

They've already confirmed that there will be an offline version.   smile   Obviously, you'll still need Internet access to upload projects.

I think that "box" would be a good name for the backpack, but that's only if backpack isn't picked. I like backpack.  smile

bye 1.4, we all loved you. but we all outgrew the site. 2.0 is a welcome change.
