No it won't

I'm not being negative, I'm just saying, there wasn't really any post count topics lately (because the original miscellaneous rules are actually being enforced now) but since people can see their own counts, it won't really stop the people that would've posted about it anyways from eventually posting.

Exactly, we've just prevented spammers (which haven't existed since misc) spamming about their post count in a stupid way, and in a few weeks someone will make a plugin which reverses it anyway.

That's only some of the Spam this will get rid of.

Re: Forum post counts now shown in levels

I think there should also be more than 200, 300, 400, etc. until it gets to 1,000, then in would be the same way as before.

I still don't see how this would stop spammers though.  hmm

Honestly, they've gone a bit too far on anti-spamming the site.. -_-"

There wouldn't be much of a point of this update if that's the way they did it.

Making a userscript would be *' difficult because you'd have to somehow get data from everyone's profile.

Re: Forum post counts now shown in levels

In a while, when spammers have learned their lesson, maybe we could change it to the exact amount, or at least advance by 100s

That's not a glitch. You have over 100 but under the next rank, 500.

Scimonster did it (probably mis-spelt that, sorry), I mean, he got info from my account of how many messages I have and even linked me to it.

Even if it isn't possible, I'm getting some sort of thing to put in my sig which gives people the exact number of posts I have, just because.

Seriously? That's now a swear?

He was able to do that because the Scratch Team have implemented an API for that, I believe. And it's only your messages, not anyone else's ^^

now all the new members keep asking how they get the "< thing" in their post count. this isn't really a help. if anything, it starts more spam.

It might start spam for newer members, but it still puts less emphasis on your exact post count, and after 1000 posts, you don't really have to worry about your post count anymore, so I think the positives outweigh the negatives.  smile

Goodbye, Scratch. I am leaving because of the exams coming up at our school, though I'll check the forums once or twice a week.

I think it's fine the way it is. That just encourages trying to get to those high post counts then

How about incrementing it once every 1000 until a Scratcher gets over 5000. Then it just reads 5000< or >5000.

Ehh... I still don't think there's anything wrong with it. I'm fine with my 13101 posts showing as the same as someone with 1001.

I used an XMLHttpRequest to get the info from the front page. Not an API.  tongue
And I don't think there's any way to get the post count for other users. And veggie, why do you keep posting your post count? Isn't that kind of defeating this?  neutral

BTW, this is my least favorite of the recent forum changes. ^^
