Just a small suggestion, use "Over ***" rather than ">***", it looks nicer.

Re: Forum post counts now shown in levels

I like this idea. It can get kinda annoying when people say "6000 posts in three and a half months?!" or something like that, especially when it's nothing to with the topic being discussed. And, as numerous other people have said, it'll decrease spam as well.

How about only having your post count visible though?

Hey guys, just made a plugin for your internet browsers which shows everyone's post count in normal numbers again.

Lol - yeah, we considered that possibility.  There's a lot of smart people in the Scratch community.

If that happens, then that tells us something about what the community considers important - or at least what the individuals that choose to employ such a hypothetical workaround consider important - so we learn something  smile

I figured out how to find anyone's post count:
1. Find a post by the person whose post count you want
2. Click on Posts: >***
3. In the new page, look at the page count (above the blue "Search results" bar)
4. Multiply by 30 for an estimate, or, for a precise number, multiply by 30, subtract 30, then add the number of posts mentioned on the last page.
So, Paddle2See should have... 5533 posts.  big_smile

Well, if only your post count showed up, there would still be a spamming problem that this new post count was created to stop. People would still say things such as: "I posted 6649 posts. What about you?" And then other people would reply and spam up the thread.

If any posts should be visible to a user, it should be other users' post counts. :p

Anyway, I think this new post count is a great idea. It will stop a lot of spam from users who want a lot of posts for their post count. It may not stop users below the ">100" mark from post count spamming, but hopefully they will stop when they reach the 100 mark or they will get caught.

Hmm... I would like a bit more specificity. How about also showing:
>250
>750
>2000
>5000
>8000
>10000
I think it's good that it shows the exact count below 100 though.

I dunno, the point is to reduce specificity so users wouldn't want to compare posts...

You forgot duplicate posting in threads.

I did think about doing this, but it would be pretty difficult (for me), even for just my account.

Interesting!
To test this out, I just right clicked on post count on a random post and selected "inspect element" (this is in chrome). Then I changed the value by clicking on it in the window the pops up at the bottom of the screen.

Here's what it looks like:
http://imgclean.com/?p=1315

Check it out and see what you think. You can also try other things -- I think someone suggested "1000+" earlier. It'd be interesting to see how that looks in context.

By the way - if you've ever dreamed of getting to a massive post count, this is quite an easy way to see what that would be like.

It's in Firefox 10 (the current version) too. However, you can't edit the HTML. :C

Yeah, I love inspect-elementing stats (on an online school quiz, I inspect-elemented myself a 100%).

I love the way 1,000+ looks, but here are some other ideas as to how different presentations could look:

I think a comma in 1,000 might be nice, since it's a pre-generated figure.

Re: Forum post counts now shown in levels

I personally think that if there was some sort of character limit, instead of post count limits, it may keep everybody happy. And it could help remove quote trains...
Although I do see the issue with spamming. And in some ways people may want to reach a large number like 10,000 by instead of spamming, making multiple helpful posts.  smile

Commas aren't used in all countries, so that might be confusing. I do think 1000+ is the best though. <33
