Adobe Flash CS4 incorrectly compiles to .gif?

I tried to compile a .fla file to .gif, but the result was choppy, and the text was just a bunch of scribbles. I've also tried it with other .fla files to .mov, same result. Has anyone else experienced this?

Also, could this be a result of a lot of programs running in the background?

P.S. In case you're wondering, I'm trying to compile to an animated gif, not a stationary one.
