The Unofficial Adventures in Odyssey Thread

This is the Unofficial Adventures in Odyssey Thread, and is open to discussion of all things Odyssey!  lol

First off, let's introduce some of the main characters you'll meet.

Color Key
Characters that are often heard on albums 51+.
Characters that might come back in the future.
Characters that are dead. Literally. They won't come back.

John Avery Whittaker
"Whit" is an inventor, author and owner of Whit's End - an ice cream shop and "discovery emporium" where kids can be kids. His wise counsil and endless inventions have made him a trusted friend and confidant to all in Odyssey

Eugene Meltsner
Eugene is Whit's dependable, eccentric genius of an assistant. Whether he's fixing things at Whit's End, teaching at Campbell College, or developing another big invention, Eugene knows everything about everything (or at least he thinks he does).

Connie Kendall
Connie is a spunky college student who works part-time at Whit's End. She is smart, spontaneous and outspoken - especially when it comes to hosting her "Candid Conversations" radio show or testing out Whit's latest inventions.

Wooton Bassett
There's no one quite like Wooton! When he's not delivering mail, creating new comic-book characters, or concocting new ice-cream flavors, you can find Wooton helping out around Odyssey in some very unusual ways.

Bernard Walton
As Odyssey's resident window-washer and philosopher, Bernard takes great pride in doing things right - putting him at odds with today's shortcuts and shortcut-takers. despite his grousing and muttering, he has a heart of gold and tells great stories, which makes him a natural to host the telivision program, "B-TV."

Jason Whittaker
Jason is Whit’s youngest son—and in many ways, he is a “chip off the old block.” Most of Jason’s life was spent as an “analyst” and operative (in other words, secret agent) for the National Security Agency, just like his dad. And Jason also inherited his father’s love for inventions and tinkering with gadgets—especially the high-tech kinds. But while Jason possesses Whit’s sense of adventure, he does not possess Whit’s patience and wisdom, which results in Jason’s often reckless, impetuous nature. He is a “man of action” who sometimes leaps before he looks.

Katrina Meltsner
After an on-and-off relationship lasting several years, Katrina Shanks finally married the relationally-challenged Eugene Meltsner. His mental equal in every way, she is a softer, non-hysterical version of Eugene. The star-crossed intellectuals were born to be together.

Jack Allen
Jack and Whit grew up together and have been lifelong friends. But unlike Whit—who can be strong and forceful—Jack is more reflective and reticent to impose his points of view on those around him. He has been described as “painfully polite.” He is a mild, well-educated and well-mannered “gentle-man” in every sense of the word. Jack was recently married to Joanne Woodston, years after his first wife’s death, and the two manage an antique shop in Odyssey.

Harlow Doyle
Harlow Doyle is the most clueless private detective anyone could ever hope to meet. Harlow got his start working “undercover” in the bedding and sheets department of a local store ... and his career has gone downhill since. You can spot Harlow (when he’s not trying to camouflage himself) puttering about the streets of Odyssey in pursuit of the wrong criminals on his trusty Moped.

Tom Riley
Tom is an old friend of Whit (he calls him “John Avery”) and owns an apple farm outside of town. He coached many of Odyssey’s sports teams, and ably served as Odyssey’s mayor through its most difficult times. Tom is known for his wisdom and “country sense.”

Regis Blackgaard
As Whit’s nemesis, Dr. Regis Blackgaard is synonymous with pure evil in Odyssey. Where Bart Rathbone’s schemes are comical, Blackgaard’s are terrifying. A former European intelligence agent, he has plotted more than once to take over Whit’s End and Odyssey by whatever means necessary. He is to be feared and never trusted.

Bart Rathbone
If the Barclays are a “good” example of an Odyssey family, the Rathbones are the complete opposite. Bart Rathbone, the father, wouldn’t stand up to scrutiny. There are few ethical questions that he’s inclined to ignore. From unscrupulously coaching a softball team to using shady methods to run his electronics shop, “The Electric Palace,” to coming up with all manners of get-rich-quick schemes, Bart affably stands for everything Whit—and the world of Odyssey—is against.

Doris Rathbone
Doris Rathbone is a perfect compliment to her husband, Bart...which is to say she’s anything but perfect! Less than the model wife and mother, she is the sometimes nagging co-conspirator in Bart’s schemes.

Rodney Rathbone
Rodney Rathbone is an only child, who proudly serves as the town bully and head of a gang called “The Bones of Rath.” He has become a fixture on the streets (and back alleys) of Odyssey. Whether he’s harassing kids, trying to con someone, or starting a rock band, Rodney keeps things lively through his humorous and willful defiance of common sense.

Joanne Allen
Joanne Allen is a sweet lady whose innocent charm is the perfect compliment to Jack’s gentle nature. A member of the Board of the Universal Press Foundation, Joanne is involved with missions work. Her vibrant, active lifestyle belies her years.

In case you're interested, here is the link to the old, closed, Adventures in Odyssey topic. It still exists, in the servers of the Scratch forums. Feel free to check it out. And yes, AIO trivia is coming again soon.

Re: The Unofficial Adventures in Odyssey Thread

You should add the bios of the new people from Album 51+; and I would suggest you mark the people who are not on AIO now, or are less frequently heard from.

That's a good idea. I'll do that. PS, how do I change the font color? You seem to have done it in your signature and I'd love to know how.

Not only that, but in the first three episodes of album 55, The Deep End, we follow Jason as he chases Mr. Grote. The episodes are a three part called The Labyrinth, Parts 1, 2 and 3. It should be fun when it comes out.

No, I have not listened to it, but I heard about it on the Whits End podcast page. PS, if you go there, there is a link for an online radio station that plays Adventures in Odyssey 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
