What Scratch really needs.

I sent this email which has some great ideas to improve Scratch:

"Hello, Scratch Team. I think some changes could be in order for when Scratch 2.0 comes out.

Not to be pushy or anything, but I think you need a more professional approach to this new site design and program. Honestly, I don't see much of any people here due to educational purposes.

The site also needs to get a bigger audience somehow. 2000 views is how many views an OUTSTANDING PROJECT used to get, and that is hardly anything on other sites such as YouTube or Newgrounds. The site needs popularized a bit.

Also, there needs to be more effort in the community's projects, which means there needs to be something to promote that. Over the course of a few months, I've seen some projects that could be made by almost anyone in under 5 minutes. Not saying that stuff needs to filtered, but maybe there could be sections on the site. (example: an animation section, an art section, a game section, and an advanced, intermediate, and novice section for each)

I hope you take my thoughts into consideration, and it will make my year (not day, year.) if you take this email into action.

What do you think?

Re: What Scratch really needs.

Hm... Scratch is not meant to be changed to a more "professional" style because it is for educational uses and not to be your profession. if there were different sections, people might get sad if they get put into a novice section and advanced project owners might brag... this site should NOT be compared to Youtube or even newgrounds.

even though people might be on here for fun, the whole reason scratch started was to teach kindergarteners how to make games and stuff. and while people are making games, they are actually learning too.

although people might be posting two second pictures and others posting masterpiece games, scratch has a variety of ages on so what might seem like a great project to someone younger might seem like rubbish to an older one...

scratch is not meant to be a great collection of flash games like armorgames or videos like youtube or anything else that has perfected pieces, but is just meant to be an educational tool, no matter how many people are not here for education.

Couldn't agree more.

I also agree with this explanation 200%.

I sort of agree. I don't want BRAGGING on the site, or anyone feeling sad, so forget my idea of sections. But still, people should take more pride in their work, and more experienced users should help them to do just that in a nice way. And also, if the site had a more bigger audience (but not too big, because the Scratch Team in their reply to my email said that an audience like YouTube would be too hard to handle and that there are advantages in monitoring a small/medium sized website), more people will be able to see the easiest way to express your creativity, that being with Scratch. I should really re-think my opinion about what things need to be done on Scratch 2.0, so thanks for telling me what you think!  smile
