Pokemon Specialized Training (If you could call it that XD)

Whenever I've played pokemon, I've never put much thought into training. Fight high levels, rare candies, good moves, thats it.

I've played pokemon like that all my life, but I'm interested in specially raising a team, including...

Breeding Exclusive Moves
Effort Values
Move + battle planning
Held Items
etc.

I'm also going to have it be Bug typed, and in Gen 5.

The pokemon I think I'm going to use:

Leavanny (x2) (Different typed moves)
Escavelier (Rock and Ice and high damage)
Vespiquen
Armaldo (For fire type protection)

How should I go about doing this? Should I raise them up with my current file in B/W, or start a new one?

I would redommend NOT using bug types because fire types live everywhere. I say either use dragon or electric

Re: Pokemon Specialized Training (If you could call it that XD)

well
no matter what you train
always used a finished file
that way
you can train where it best suits your needs

i personally train grass and electric types
when i decide to keep track of everything

That's why I love Waters.

Anyway, focus on training & leveling Armaldo first. That way, your biggest weakness is covered.
Then, get an Electric or Rock type in the midst to help train in places populated by strong Flying types. That way, you'll have a slight advantage against Flying types. You'll be able to take that Pokemon out of your party whenever you want and continue to train, though.
There, you have steps 1 and 2. I may or (probably) may not come back and add more.

Tanks and walls are your best friends.
Tanks are Pokemon with high defense/SP def and high attack/sp atk. Camerupt, for example.
Walls have monstrous def/Sp def and are there to absorb hits and wittle the opponent, like Skarmory.

Re: Pokemon Specialized Training (If you could call it that XD)

A lot of good advice!

For a tank, I'm thinking armaldo, since it has high base attack, and decent base defense. I'll get me an item that will promote special defense or defense, and fight some defensive pokemon.

Hmm...
Train your tank and wall in route 8 and pinwheel forest.
Many pokemon there have EV's that enhance defense and HP.

Is that good at any level...?

Also, I'm thinking escavalier could be my primary wall, though it also has good attack.
Probably gonna give it some stat reducing move, though will also have steel moves.

Plan:

Escavalier
Train in Pinwheel forest
Special Defense/Defense EV Enhancing item

Moves:

Iron Head
Double team
Iron Defense
Twin needle

Escavalier is strong! Train this at a high level

Best moves
Iron head
Giga impact
megahorn
sword dance
X- Scissor
Twineedle

KEEP TRAINING! You never lose when you got trained pokémon and good moves on your side.  big_smile

Giga impact? Not always the case. Defensive pokemon will spit in your face when it comes to giga impact. You do little damage to rock and steel types, and then you don't get to attack for a turn. Somewhat risky if you don't have that massive difference in your attack and the foe's defense.

Btw, you should keep a completely balanced team. One type has all too many weaknesses. Keep your Pocket Monsters varied.

Steel types have the highest defense, with weaknesses only to electric.

Bug-type is a good choice, but I prefer Electric. Luxray and Shinx are a must when at high levels.

I'm doing this specifically as a bug type team, to give me a challenge.

Steel types aren't weak to electric

+1

They're weak to fire and ground

Re: Pokemon Specialized Training (If you could call it that XD)

You should use a bug type. I would recommend Scolipede. With a speed+ nature.
It can learn rock slide and earthquake which will take care of those fire types. Can also learn    Swords Dance, defence raising and poison moves.

In doubles you could get a friend (Whimsicott) to swagger it for a fast off the line blow.

Rock slide and earthquake give it no STAB, therefore not guaranteeing a 1 hit K.O., thus endangering scolipede. Bug type Armaldo offers high base attack and base defense, and STAB with rock moves, and normal effect in terms of fire attacks taken.
