You mean a button that would remove any background that came with the image you are using as a costume? That would be cool...but the computer has no way of knowing what is background and what part of the image you want to keep for the sprite. So I don't think they can do this in Scratch any time soon.

I remember I accidently found a glitch that made a costume have no sprite. Stupidly I deleted the costume, But I found another project that had a blank costume and downloaded it. It's still on my computer, but I'm on vacation until aug. 24 and I'm trying to type this on a BlackBerry but I'll tell you what it is when I get back.

Well it can be done on other image manipulation programs, that of which I'm talking about GIMP and PS. I make image transparencies all the time in GIMP anyway.
Surely if it can be done in there it can be done in Scratch?
Use my magic wand!...
No seriously, the wand-like tool in GIMP can be used for this.

The button could have a menu
multicolor background- (outline the character and it deletes everything else)
one color background- (deletes the color around it)
Sprite Sheet mode- (deletes one color and each part of the costume that only touches eraser color will become a new costume)
