Gene Wilder one was weird and the actors weren't that fantastic. Massively prefer Johnny Depp.

Re: Gene Wilder v. Johnny Depp -- Willy Wonka

Though johnny depp is cool, the old one was better to me in several senses.

Gene Wilder was funny in his own way, rather than being some wacko.

In the new one, Charlie is practically some perfect little angel, while the original one had a kid with an attitude of that of an average boy.

Gene Wilder WAS a wacko. Charlie is mean't be mature because he has to look after his family. Have you READ the book?

In the book, charlie was the most innocent, sweetest boy ever. in the older movie? ALL THE KIDS WERE BRATS. the new one? charlie was sweet like in the book. Now tell me which movie has a closer charlie to the book.

I do believe we are comparing the movies, no?

And Gene Wilder was indeed a wacko, but I merely left out the "just" in there. So he's funny AND a wacko.

And being mature and being some kind of perfect angel are very different. You can be mature but have some flaws. The one in the original movie was mature in ways, but got mad at points like any kid, mature or not, should. In the new one, he's mature, but he's practically perfect, and I don't see the realism in that.

I'm not saying it isn't or is like the book, I'm just saying why I like the old movie over the new one. This is my opinion, in which I never once made a comparison to the book, and the book does not affect my opinion, as I am merely stating my opinion on the movies in comparison.

Gene Wilder was funny? You mean singing random and meaningless rhymes and having a collection of things, in half. Both examples aren't mentioned in the original book.

Charlie has to look after his family, so he isn't expected to run wild. In the original book, there is no evidence that Charlie isn't perfect. Speaking of which, the Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory just added random characters which had no importance in the book, like the science teacher, Slugsworth and the man Charlie works for.

Both are good in different ways, the older film had some memorable songs, and the casting was great, the newer film didn't stray too far from the book, and the special effects topped it off. I just prefer the newer film and Johnny Depp.

Re: Gene Wilder v. Johnny Depp -- Willy Wonka

The original is considered one of the greatest movies of all time and a classic. It's safe to say Johnny Depp isn't exactly the best actor ever, but Gene Wilder could be.

Johnny Depp could totally be the best actor ever. Ever seen Pirates of the Caribbean? Maybe the new Alice In Wonderland? Johnny Depp is fantastic.

EDIT: Wow, me and this weird samid guy posted at the exact same second.

Am I the only one who noticed that the new Wonka is like a little boy in a grown man's body, while the old one was... well, meanish? The new wonka: "Goodmorning, starshine! The earth says hello! :3" The old Wonka: "YOU GET NOTHING!!! YOU LOSE!!! GOOD DAY, SIR!!!"
