I'd rather read the book, but that's just me.

I don't not like it because of the cue cards.
I don't like it because I don't like the way they invented a (really bad) backstory.

Johnny Depp, but the Gene Wilder Wonka was also cool.

+1
What I meant to say
Though I loathe the JD version of Willy Wonka.

Gene Wilder FTW! Johnny Depp just makes Willy Wonka seem to 'weird' and 'creepy.'
You also gotta love Gene Wilder's singing. It's one of my favorite movies of all-time.

Willy Wonka is supposed to be really weird and creepy.

But in the first one, Gene Wilder was weird to an extent. He had his moments. But In Johnny Depp's version, I think they took Willy Wonka's character a little too for. And at the end of the movie (during the final scene), I think Gene Wilder nailed Willy Wonka. I have read the book, and I think that movie stayed more 'true' to the book.

The "cue cards" are not for Johnny Depp, they're supposed to show how, with the social isolation he's been in, Wonka needs to plan what he says.

Willy Wonka?

Johnny Depp, he gave a kinda insane/childish feeling to willy wonky which made the movie more interesting

If Gene Wilder didn't act like he was mad, I'd pick him. But Johnny Depp always gets the job done, well.

I like the Johnny Depp version. Not just because the movie was by Tim Burton, but also it was closer to the book (with the exeption of the dad part) but the older one strayed too far, and Roald Dahl (the author of the book) HATED "willy wonka and the chocolate factory" so much that he demanded they not make the sequel. They might, however, make a sequel to the new one! Oh, and "world of pure imagination" was a pretty song, but the older movie just doesn't impress me. Sorry, people who grew up with it, but I grew up with the newer CatCF.
