Since many of the users of this site are kids, for safety reasons it's important to keep the communications out in the open. Open communications help prevent bullying and predators.

uh no. tht WOULDN'T be fair. just 'cause someone's new doesn't mean that they shouldn't be able to post! like seriously??!! that's discriminating & WRONG. do u know how many scratchers WOULDN'T be able to post ANYTHING in here???!! & not all of them would actually even be NEW. TONS of ppl make other accounts. i have a butt load of thm. & since the account is new, acording 2 sracth they're new, but they aren't. doing that would be sooooo STUPID. there's no point in not letting new scratchers post too!!

Yeah, there really isn't in here.
But we actually did use to "segregate" the accounts back with Misc. so there's no argument for it being "WRONG" specifically.

Using that logic...
We used to "segregate" black and white children in schools so there's no argument for it being "WRONG" specifically.

Yeah, I figured that argument.
But I mean like - being able to talk about random stuff on one specific part of a specific internet board is not nearly as much an infringement on rights as the segregation of races.
Also, New Scratchers have the promise of the ability to use the board eventually (and often soon if they are active enough). Also, racial segregation was not something that applied to everyone like the New Scratcher applies to every user since it's addition (which is probably the majority of active users now), which is why it was so specifically unfair. I am not allowed to drink until I am an adult - New Scratchers weren't allowed to use Misc. until they were a Scratcher

I did, of course, know you'd come back with the drinking (or driving, or voting) argument, and merely was providing you with the opportunity to make a legit argument.

Your grammar is a case for the point you are arguing against.
I won't say that all of them are that bad. That's discriminatory.
There are some places they shouldn't be allowed to post in, but not all of them. The most "off-topic" subforums are the only places they shouldn't post in until they're a scratcher, regardless of whether they're called inspiration or more, miscellaneous, R/P, or M/C.
Also, aren't alts sort of frowned upon? Why do you need more than one account, really?

It's not. This is the internet. Nobody has put rules about grammar on here.

It's not a rule, more like an unspoken standard.
People in here are first judged by their grammar as much as people in real life are first judged by their way of speaking. Note that I did not say "accent", even though that does count, as I also wanted to refer to morons who speak like they have no idea what half the words they're saying mean. I just wanted to refer to accent, slur, and dialect all in one neat little package, so as not to be discriminatory.

*sigh* here's my argument before I stop you guys from derailing this thread:
People (at least I) read things as if they were being said in my head. Bad grammar is a headache to read, so please don't use it. Furthermore, this thread is about the policies of this forum, not grammar. Unless you want to make good grammar a requirement of this forum, I would suggest we revert to discussing the policies of the forum.

Yeah, sorry for going off-topic.

i agree with you guys, we should be mocking instead of teaching, and we should take the low boundaries to the internet as a given

i also agree. if english isn't your first language you should be forced to spend years learning the details and specifics of the language before you get a chance to use certain parts of the web.
seriously, imagine if you needed to know perfect korean to use Facebook.

also, as long as the text is understandable, there isn't a problem, is there? it really bugs me when people are like "you said their instead of they're therefor your argument is invalid lol".

Look. This has gone really off-topic. Let me stop the argument by saying this undeniable fact:
BAD GRAMMAR MAKES YOU LOOK UNINTELLIGENT.
Is that clear enough for you?
I can understand bad grammar in some situations, but in the potentially infinite time you have available to write a forum post, there isn't much of an excuse.
I personally do not like it unless it is used ironically, like 777w does for instance.

It's not learning a second language, these people know perfectly well the structure and purpose of the english language. The people of other languages DO have an excuse, but nobody else. They're surrounded by people like the mods using it all the time. They Just Refuse To Capitalize Properly, Like I'm Doing Here. or in other situations like this. or dont wanna spel rite or use apostrophys or use the write your, lik dis.
Are any of those statements pleasant to read in the slightest?
It only takes a little more effort than just browsing to look around and see a well-structured, well-written post with good grammar and learn from it.
Please, do this at every opportunity until your grammar is up to par to help make the internet a better place.
