My concern is that creating a space just for opinions is creating a space that will likely take a lot of energy to moderate, since lots of people have opinions, and lots of people love to disagree about them and feel compelled to discuss them endlessly.  This comic sums it up beautifully.

Now, there's nothing wrong with people sharing their general opinions via the web and discussifying to their heart's content. But why not do so in a space that is designed for that sort of thing? (like reddit, or one of the zillion other discussion forums on the webs). If we make a space for that on our forums, I suspect it'll get used a ton and start to distract us and the community from what this community is about: making awesome stuff with Scratch.

Still, I think there should be a opinion section, another reason being, that the Making and Creating section is ok, but the reading and playing section doesn't really apply to me, since I read books, but don't play a lot of games, and I'm not really into games.

What about renaming the Making and Creating section "Creativity"?

Both forums also sound like Twittery type topics if you know what I mean. I don't like those kind of topics, and thankfully, not many of those have been made yet, but both titles seem to make it sound so, especially to new members.

What is your opinion on this?  smile

It's not just books and games though. The name is just what mostly would go there, but it's also art like music, visual art, and movies as well as a couple other things I've seen like conventions, TV shows, toys, and pretty much anything that inspires you.

Yes! If it's something you are making or creating, and have invested your energy in, you are welcome to post it / discuss it here.  smile

As veggie said, Reading and Playing is more than just books / games. The name doesn't really make that clear all that well - we agree. But we haven't heard a better suggestion yet.

One way we broke it down was: Creating (for MaC) and Consuming (for RaP). Creativity isn't bad, but it might suggest that the stuff in the other (Scratch related) forums isn't creative, which it is. "Creating" might work as well though.

But "Consuming" has some negative connotations... but perhaps you or other Scratchers can suggest a better term? We'd love to hear it.  smile

Well it's showing this that you've created so I'd assume so. But I think it'd be best to use the Minecraft Official Topic for that.

Yeah, I was on the first day of TIMAC and there was like 50 Minecraft topics. I dont like Minecraft so I was going to freak out if every post in this forum was Minecraft. I think I would literally send an email to the Scratch Team requesting a seperate forum for Minecraft posts.  hmm

I'm glad that the Minecraft stuff is contained.

I understand, but I just thought that I don't want to be part of a forum that only centres around playing games, but now I understand what you mean, creating and consuming.

And I agree that consuming has a bad image, especially to some people, but what about "Other Creative Interests" for the MaC forum? I'd like to know what you think about that  smile

It's not bad. Do you think it would be too open ended? We went for "making and creating" because it implies a certain level of commitment. To make something takes at least a little energy and oomph. To have a creative interest is really easy. Seems like you could just say "I have a creative interest in [insert anything you want to talk about]. Discuss."

News Flash!
Because of the confusion with the forum title in TiRaP (Things I'm Reading and Playing) and the "Playing" of sports, we've decided to move all sports topics over to TiRaP, regardless of whether you are watching or participating in them.  Hopefully that will make things a bit more clear-cut and easier to understand.

I could make a joke here, but I'd get banned if I did.

Aaaaanyway, things you're taking part in also fits in here, if I understand correctly.

True, but it involves listening to music as well because people could post the tracklists for their mixes for other people to listen to.

I'll just wait for a mod to answer, thanks  smile

I guess it would depend on what exactly you were discussing. If you were going to discuss and share the tracklists, you'd put it in the reading and playing forum. But, if you wanted to discuss making them, you'd put it here.

I was planning on both, which is where my conundrum lies.
