I guess the creators chose a random scientific word that no-one knew about and used it as the name. Of course, there is also hard light bridges.

But anyway, possible busting of the Chell/GLaDOS' daughter theory!
Okay, so the theorie that GLaDOS/Caroline is Chell's mother may have a major hole in it.
Facts:
the first set of Old Aperture test chambers were from the 1940s
presumably, Cave Johnson died directly after the time period of the last set of O.A. test chambers, in the 1970s, or maybe 1980s
Cave wanted Caroline to be put into control of the company after he died
Caroline had her brain scanned and purt into GLaDOS' personality
GLaDOS was activated in 1998, the same day as "take your daughter to work" day.
Chell was at aforesaid day/event (she had a science project there)
Judging by the... "simpleness" of Chell's project, she was between 6-10 years old
Because of the above statement, Chell was born around 1990
Portal takes place in 2010, putting Chell between 18-22 years old
Caroline could only have given birth if she had a human body
Caroline's body was destroyed after she was put into GLaDOS
Caroline would have had to give birth, or for that matter, adopt, in the 1970s-1980s
Again, Chell was born around 1990
see? I know my theory has some holes in it, but it seems more likely than not, right?

Actually, she didn't want to be GLaDOS, and that's what probably corrupted her.
The Caroline part of GLaDOS wasn't corrupt. The GLaDOS part of GLaDOS was. Remember, Caroline was only part of GLaDOS' personality.

GLaDOS is Chell's mother. Don't ask me how it could possibly be, but remember how at the end of Portal 2 the turrets sing that song as Chell leaves? Find a translation of that song. It may surprise you.

Yep, saw it on IGN. You know, (if you watched the ending) GLaDOS is Caroline. In Want You Gone, they apparently converted her to a robot. Mistake.

Woah! I think I found out what year Portal 2 takes place in! Near the end of the game, when Wheatley tries to booby-trap you with turrets, but they are just the broken turrets, there was a turret box lying on the floor. I picked it up, and on the back it looked like it said 'Date manufactured: 2061'
