Is there any way to get into Doctor Who without watching through all 788 episodes— and growing?  Maybe a text version?

The Classic episodes aren't required to understand.

Go on Netflix and find "Series 1" which has Christopher Eccleston as the Doctor. It's the beginning of the reboot and re-introduces concepts of the show.

If you're REALLY lazy, start at "Series 5" on Netflix and that and Series 6, and go back to Series 1-4 in your free time.

(Series = Reboot, Seasons = Classic Show)

It's not a reboot.

Yes, I know.

But for the sake of this, it's easiest to call it that.

And last night's episode was the worst of the series so far IMO

Or you could call it a revival, which is what it is.

I disagree. I thought it was better than Dinosaurs on a Spaceship.

Dinosaurs on a Spaceship is quite a bit better.

This episode was obviously going for a more dramatic feel (but with a good amount of jokes, the best part about The Power Of Three was all the gags), but the plot resolution was way too easy. "The cubes are killing everyone and we spent 3/4th of the episode building up to this!" Then he just wipes his sonic screwdriver once and everything's happy.

Dinosaurs on a Spaceship was obviously aiming to be intentionally campy and cheesy, and it was really good at it.

I admit the resolution was quite bad, but in my opinion, the rest of the episode made up for it.

Character development is great and all
but you need a plot behind it

Yes, and I thought it had a great plot. The only thing that was bad about it was the resolution. The resolution =/= the whole plot.

The resolution is one of the most important parts though! The audience remembers the last thing they saw, so to have that in the last 10 minutes is just  hmm

Yes, I know. I agree that the resolution is a very very important part, but you can't just take that and say that it didn't have a good plot, because that's not at all a fair assessment.

Re: Doctor Who Official Thread

Okay, The Angels Take Manhattan was pretty good. I'll rate S7 so far:

1. A Town Called Mercy/The Angels Take Manhattan (can't decide)
2. Asylum of the Daleks
3. Dinosaurs on a Spaceship
4. The Power of Three

I liked The Power of Three up until the end, but they defeated the [SPOILER] so easily that it ruined it for me.

Re: Doctor Who Official Thread

That was amazing. Very sad but a great way to tie it up for the characters.
Best of the Series 7 so far.

It's definitely not soap-opera-y

Think psychological horror with great emotion!

More like
Mother, Father and Sister: *stare at screen looking somewhat condescending*
or
Brother: *derisive laughter*
or
Brother: [insert something implying 'this is like live action anime']
or
something

NO!

Watch Series 1-6 on Netflix, then watch what there currently is of 7!
Unless you've already done that, in which case have fun.

YOU CAN NOT WATCH THAT EPISODE WITHOUT PROPER CHRONOLOGY
IT RUINS IT
