Plans to land Tardis over them with a mad and stupid Dalek at the controls. As cool as fezzes are, I personally wear a trilby.

If anybody here is technically inclined....if I'm building a sonic screwdriver, and I want to make the front go out like the real one, but a linear actuator is too expensive, could you use an electromagnet and spring to pull the front back in and then hold them in with a non electric magnet?
Offline
just make it like a pen
edit: actually, I realized I don't really know what you mean but here's a diy linear actuator tutorial (it's for pet feeders but tells you how to make one)

Yes, bow ties are very cool. The Doctor can make almost any article of clothing look cool.
My friends and I are working on a game together (It's a long-term thing), and in honor of Matt Smith one of the characters in it will be wearing a fez.
Sadly, there is no bow tie.
I can't choose a favorite Doctor because I've only had access to the Matt Smith episodes. I'm not complaining though; I think Eleven's awesome.
Sometimes, it seems like people are referring to him as "Not Ten", just like baby Alfie from that 7.1 episode referred to his father as "Not Mom".
I don't blame them; if Ten's really that much better than Eleven then he must be epic.

eh, it's more that ten stuck around for like five years and people watching the episodes at the time grew fond of him

I've never seen 11, but ten is EPIC. I would tell you where I watch them, but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to.

IMO, the Eleven has some really cool plotlines but some of them just feel silly or pretentious, but Ten's personality is the most enjoyable.
Ten gets to be dramatic and goofy, and pull it off well, Eleven just sort of parades around like a drunken giraffe (though hilariously) until something serious comes along and he kind of pulls off the acting.

So apparently this is a really good show.
Unfortunately, I have never watched it.
I have no TV.
Is there anywhere I can watch it online? And what episode should I start watching on?Look up 'doctor who world war three' (don't change the 'three' to '3') and click on the first 'Videos' link. It's got most if not all of the episodes (if it is missing any, they're the ones that just came out [I'm too lazy to look up what the most recent episode was]). I suggest first watching Blink, and then starting with Series 3.
Yes. Start out with Blink.
Ugh.
Just start out with the sub-par revival Series 1 episodes, and watch everything all the way through.
But please don't ruin such good episodes right off the bat by having them be your first.

Kind of? In my opinion, Matt Smith is much better at doing anger and sadness than Tennant was. He's a lot more subtle with how he does it, which I much prefer. For instance, take that scene in A Good Man Goes to War, where he's talking to Colonel 'Runaway.' As he's talking to him, the way he goes from lighthearted all the way to actually shouting at him is just brilliant. But it's the lines that aren't shouting that are the best, and really show how much of a great actor Matt Smith is.

"Those words, 'run away.' I want you to be famous for those exact words. I want people to call you Colonel Runaway; I want children laughing outside your door 'cause they found the house of Colonel Runaway."
The way he does that last part particularly is just so incredibly brilliant and much more unique than anything Tennant did.

I don't think he's being subtle so much as he is not sure how to be angry.
Tennant felt like this man that would really screw stuff up for you when he got angry.
Matt Smith is this man who gets angry and manages to perform amazing speeches with no preparation but he never does anything irrational. I guess he did in the two most recent but everything else he did was a simple moral choice where he took the higher ground.
Tennant did the whole Time Lord Victorious, and the loss of Rose went throughout the third season (rejecting Martha, not just as a romantic partner but being kind of distant from her the whole time.) Matt Smith was up in a cloud for a bit before running off again.
Even when the entire universe was gone he was just sort of like "it's cool, I've got this." It's not like everybody has died and he would need time to reflect on that.
They are both great actors but I really wouldn't be calling either of them subtle.

Not even a mention of Christopher Ecclestone ;_; I've been watching DW since it re-started in 2005.
'You were brilliant, and so was I'
I like all of the Doctors (9-11), but I actually like 10 the best.
He is my Doctor, as we say.

Ecclestone was really good but he just wasn't relevant at the time.
Namely because he was always depressed and angry, being straight out of the time war.

IMO, he knew how to be angry. That's it. No flourishes necessary, just an amazing 'I hate you' speech and he gets what he wants done. I've come to think of his brain and his body as separate things; everything, rational or not, runs through his head, but he only does what absolutely needs doing. Tennant was more 'save the earth and then cry to myself'. I'd say that they both had their subtle moments.

I lot of the stuff you mentioned is down to the script, not the acting. And anyway, the Eleventh Doctor blew up a whole bunch of Cyberships to make them tell him where Amy was.
Also, I disagree that "he's not sure how to be angry." He objectively displayed anger and hatred absolutely brilliantly in that clip. His facial expressions were perfect, but the point is that he doesn't shout when doing that (I know he does shout in the clip, but that's not the part I'm talking about). And that, in my opinion, is a lot better, and not shouting is more subtle than shouting.

Not shouting is certainly . . . quieter. But paired with his dialogue it's not subtle.
Not that they don't both nail every line but they are NOT subtle.

Whoa.... so glad I found this! At last, some people who will get my many-used references! I take French, so I can say "Allons-y!" as much as I want without being looked at funny... lol. My favourite Doctor has to be David Tennant. Matt Smith..... not so much. He makes DW into more of a comedy than a sci-fi. Anyway, we got that?... Brilliant! Also, my friends think I'm weird because I like DW and have David Tennant on the background of my phone. Fezzes are cool. )))
