Yes, this would be quite easy to implement, just needs something like:

$result = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM friends WHERE friend='$scratchUsername'");
while ($row=mysql_fetch_array($result)) {
    echo $row['friender'].'\n';
}

'friender' would be the person that friend's 'friend'.

In 2.0 "friending" will become "following", but it will be possible to see both who you are following, and who is following you.
