I think that once topics are not posted on for two weeks in these new sections, they should be moved to an archived forum. That way it keeps everything nice and tidy. If someone wants their topic back, all they have to do is go to the archived forum and report their topic. Then, they get their topic back ^^

Lol, that would be funny if everyone broke into two groups like Miscellaneous.
The problem is now we are being broken up. I know that you can post in both forums but having it in one main space like Miscellaneous made it really great for making friends
Yeah
That's why I'm not really liking the whole "splitting up" thing.
I really liked having one forum, so we could make new friends and stuff

Gah, don't you just hate when your post in one of the last on the page? >_<

Can I suggest a "Polls & Surveys" forum as well?
That was originally my idea on Steve's Forums and I know that's where you got it from. ^^ I don't think we need that here though.
Actually, I got it from another fora that I go on. It's just that now we won't be able to have threads such as "What's your favourite band?" etc.

You cab still do that, it's just more organised!
I do see the need to have a 'Polls & Surveys" forum though.

I don't think the community will be divided unless we divide it.
Also on a sidenote, I think letting New Scratchers in is a double-edged sword. It expands the community, but it also leads to more spam, etc.

Yeah, plus, the group is going to be partially split up, not only for that reason, but also because new scratchers will be allowed in. Before, it was fun because we knew everyone in the group and we were able to welcome new members. It might cause even more spam.

i personally approve of letting in new scratchers

I think allowing New Scratchers to post would increase spam though. Maybe not intentionally, but some new users would probably misunderstand what it's for and post the wrong type of thread

That's really no way to think. I believe that letting in New Scratchers open's a doorway to making them feel more welcome - and the spam amount I doubt will change. And as New - Scratchers were always turning up in misc, it doesn't really make any difference.

My first 10 topics in Scratch were closed because I didn't understand either. What if a new scratcher gets banned because they mess up on 10 topics like I did and get tons of warnings even though they don't understand?

^^^^^^^
Exactly the point I was trying to make.
But the Scratch Team aren't inhuman or cruel;; they'd be understanding with a New Scratcher, especially a young one. It's their job.

Well, that would sort of be their own fault. If after 10 warnings then you still don't know the rules, a ban is the only option, really.

Yeah, the Scratch Team is awesome. I think I probably will make some mistakes in the beginning since it's new.
I'm kind of afraid to post a topic in their because I don't want to get a warning Maybe warnings should only be given out if the same person makes the same mistakes more than once.

But I was clueless when I first started and made tons of topics at the same time. I also didn't know how to check my old topics so I never saw what the Scratch Team and moderators said until recently. What if they make the topics all at the same time?

But then someone would get a warning that if they continually posted the wrong kind of topics then they would get a warning. A warning about a warning.

Dunno if that's quite needed yet, for the most part, you could still create poll topics in either of the two sections so long as the question is relevant - for example, you could ask something like "Pokemon vs. Digimon" in the "Things I'm reading and playing".
When the off-topic forum was created, it was kind of assumed that it would still be a place for creativity - not a catch-it-all for any topic in general. The proposed replacement focuses more on the ideals that the Media Lab embodies.
Of course, one might never know what happens in the future - maybe the categories will change again (there was a looooong debate on whether or not to make a third category for those interested in things like modding and programming in other languages!), but we'll have to wait. Right now, we're sticking with two and watching how the community will grow over time; categories can always be created/modified later if needed.
On an off-topic note, a poll function would be nice, though. It would be useful for things like Project Ideas and Suggestions.

the current state of this forum seems to be more of a "chat room" like atmosphere than anything else
something that the team specifically did not want
the two new ones should really make things much more "on-topic" and much more thoughtful

Yeah. I really like having actually meaningful discussions that have thought in them, but recently I haven't had many on here. Viva la revolucion!

I have a question about this all. Where do we discuss experiences that we have had? I find a lot of interesting discussions come from those types of threads.

So all minecraft topics will be moved to things I'm Reading and playing?
