It's "pointless", or "unimportant" enough that it doesn't belong on the forums. If you want to discuss your favorite crisps, or favorite anything, you can make a project about it, and put it in Show and Tell.
Umm...
Who makes a project about their favourite crisps? I know that if you wanted that, you certainly wouldn't.

If you ask me, the likelihood of making a project and forum topic about one's favorite crisps is just as unlikely. Perhaps the problem is laziness? I'm not sure.
Even with projects, you could use the "tags" to put choices, and people could "plus" their favorite varieties, so you can see which ones are popular.

A project is not on the same level as an actual discussion. Plus, forum posts are much more likely to be viewed, and nobody reads Show & Tell. Although we could get more people to read it, forum posts are much more convenient for everybody anyway.

I'd also like to point out this topic. It informs the community about something, it creates a valuable discussion point, I think we're mature enough not to let it get into a massive flamewar, but it's not about viewing or creating.

People are encouraged to create projects about important issues facing the world. That is what projects are for

Stuff about geocoaching, acting, any hobby that doesn't involve MAKING stuff will not be allowed by those descriptions.Nope - those sound awesome actually. They would fit in MaC - the forum for awesome stuff that Scratchers do outside of Scratch. Hopefully the description will make that clearer. (BTW, we're not totally in love with the names, so if you have suggestions of better titles, please share them.)

Just make it clearer free-for-all style topics aren't allowed.
No response to this. Disregard it again if you don't like the idea.

By "the community", you mean the 1.5 percent of scratch? And, many people support this change, so let's say, 0.75 percent?
He meant the Miscellaneous using community, which are the only affected. Yes I realize the mods have to put way too much energy into it for it to realistically continue being what it is, but the rest of the community (the other 98.5 percent) really shouldn't have an affecting opinion, aside from the mods who have to put way too much work in it.
Basically, shouldn't only those who it affect get the say?

Not to mention that most people cannot carry out anything serious in a comment.
They either only feel the need to use them for critique or are restricted by the character us limit in place.
The fine points of a complicated discussion such as the effects of ACTA require much more room to think and write, and I know it was hard for me to summarize stuff in the restriction when helping out answering to posts on SOPA projects.

In other news, Reading and playing will be the most popular.
Not all of us create our own stuff but we all enjoy media made by others so yeah, it will have the most posts.

We made this decision because the costs of moderating an open-topic forum were too high, especially when compared to the small percentage of active Scratchers who post there. We need to keep more of our energy focused on Scratch.

Could you please move my YouFail.org topic to Things I'm Making and Creating and re-open it, please?
