I'm gonna be blunt here.
This has to be the stupidest idea I've ever heard from the ST, ever.
People say 'oh but no other topics are productive'... how about threads about pets? Friends? School? Problems? Clothes? Discoveries? Home life? Computers? Past Scratchers?
All of the above have been productive points of discussion in the past.
Isn't this new system going to be too restricting? I mean, there's only so much Pokemon/MLP/Minecraft/Harry Potter/other books or musicians we can take. I mean, the music related stuff will be duplicated that much; 'what kind of music do you like?' ten times over.
I don't really see how this is going to help anything at all, people won't be as interested (I know I won't) and we won't really be able to get to know each other as well. All we'll know is that some other user drew a cat and read a book no-one gives a darn about.
Gosh. If they follow through with this; which I assume they will... I'm outta here -___- It's been good but this is one stupid decision too far for me.

I almost feel this way. I see what they are trying to do: they're trying to make it more kid friendly and orderly. It will also make the job for moderators easier.
But jobs are supposed to be hard, am I right? That's why they don't just choose anyone for the moderator position.
But there will be a lot of topics that we can't talk about, that aren't just spam. They are actually productive. I think the ST needs to think this over again. Oh well, I'll probably stay.
TDD, we'll have to get wwh more big and maybe everyone will go there. XD

I know yeah, they're doing it for a reason but there are easier options. There's not gonna be much scope for discussion in these new categories.
Exactly. I know it's not fair to lump loads of work on mods, but why not just elect more?
'But there will be a lot of topics that we can't talk about, that aren't just spam. They are actually productive.' Agree 100%. Is anything I listed really SPAM? :L

Then protest. Make a thread in Misc. Report it to the ST. Make your voice known. Show your feelings.
After all, I did take a Taking Action class. That's what you need to do.

But it's me, The_Dancing_Donut. It'll get closed straight away. I'll get banned again. It won't help 'cause someone always has to disagree with you :l
I might get an argument sorted out later & post it... depending on how rebellious I feel. D;

Just because it's your voice and that of many Scratchers doesn't mean the ST will just close it down due to protesting.

Exactly. I know it's not fair to lump loads of work on mods, but why not just elect more?
Part of it comes from the fact that Miscellaneous takes more time than necessary to moderate - it doesn't make much sense to have them moderate things unrelated to Scratch (let alone not really contribute to the ideals of the MIT Media Lab in general) when they should be focused more on Scratch-related aspects (helping out with Scratch Design Studio, giving input for new collab ideas and the welcoming committee, testing out the experimental viewer Flash and looking for bugs, looking out for prijects on the main site, etc.). So neither does it make sense to elect more moderators to do that sort of thing; if more moderators are to be hired, it really should be more towards the benefit Scratch as a whole.
The two new sections have a tendency to focus on those ideals. (On a somewhat off-topic note, that's why the TBG were moved to their own separate section on Scratch even if they're also unrelated - the creative gameplay from it follows more closely with the ideals of the MIT Media Lab).

Suggestion, after a certain amount of reports on a topic it should be closed and the contents will be replaced with [We recieved negative feedback on this topic and it is currently being asessed], unless the topic has over 4 pages. This means we can keep misc and we don't need to strain mods as much.

Why don't we have different types of moderators then? Like, forum ones, and then ones for the things you stated above? ^-^

It would still be rather a waste of moderator resources, especially considering that only a handful use Miscellaneous as compared to the main site.
On a personal view, I think it's a lot better than getting rid of Miscellaneous outright with no output for creativity outside Scratch whatsoever.
Would you have a problem with me making a protest-like topic? To share my opinion?
Well, you're still free to make protest-like project; a lot of people make protest-projects on Scratch.

I can't make a project, seeing as I can't upload to the Scratch website unless I'm using my dad's laptop.
I'll make a topic and if you don't like it delete it. Deal

No-one will agree anyway but this is just my two-pence on the issue.
As mentioned in the stickied thread you will no doubt be aware of; I am not at all happy that the Scratch Team has felt it necessary to delete our much-appreciated Miscellaneoud forum and replace it with less interesting, limiting mini-forums. Here is a copy-paste of my other points; with some things thrown in.
I'm gonna be blunt here.
People say 'oh but no other topics are productive'... how about threads about pets? Friends? School? Problems? Clothes? Discoveries? Home life? Computers? Past Scratchers?
All of the above have been productive points of discussion in the past. Why are they suddlenly frowned upon when they have caused no conflic in the past?
Also, isn't this new system going to be too restricting? I mean, there's only so much Pokemon/MLP/Minecraft/Harry Potter/other books or musicians we can take. The music related stuff will be duplicated that much; 'what kind of music do you like?' ten times over. There is only so much you can discuss about music.
I don't really see how this is going to help anything at all, people won't be as interested (I know I won't) and we won't really be able to get to know each other as well. All we'll know is that some other user drew a cat and read a book no-one gives a darn about. In the past, Scratchers have been able to discuss hobbies and school, and friends. These kind of subjects help you to forge 'bonds' with these online acquaintances.
The ST says that they need to 'focus on the main forums'. Well, if they need to focus on it so much, why create Misc. in the first place?! Anyways, after the change I can see a lot of quitting. It'll mean Misc. gets boring. People quit. Scratch loses it's popularity and the 'off-topic' forum concept loses it's appeal as you have such strict guidelines.
I feel like the only Scratcher who has this opinion.
I'm not 'ragequitting', I'm just stating that if the ST is going to mess us around like this then they should at least have some very strong arguments for it, other than the 'mods have too much work to do in misc.' argument. Isn't that why Misc.-focused mods like Harakou were elected?
I'm sorry for the text wall. I'm just waiting for the closure of this now. :c Or the 1-2 people that disagree just to be awkward. There you go, that's what I think.
A final note, as stated earlier: If they follow through with this; which I assume they will... I'm outta here -___- It's been good but this is one stupid decision too far for me.
Replace 'stupid' with 'badly thought-out' in your mind. That makes it sound more fair.
I'll just say this for if I don't get chance to later on and I do leave:
So long & goodnight, Scratch.
Discuss this text wall, the opinions within it and the closure of Misc. as a whole. I'm assuming this will go through so that's what, 2 more days for me here. I'm gonna miss this place & the amazing people in it.
