No - it'll still be there. This post just describes the major changes. AT will carry on in the About Scratch section. (In fact, if we didn't mention a particular forum in the post above, that means it won't be changed.)

No one ever said you're not allowed to to have a free-style forum anywhere else, you're still allowed to go out anywhere and make your own, or free to go to another forum hosting a Miscellaneous section. 

The only thing changing is having a Miscellaneous section on Scratch. It's more beneficial to have Miscellaneous restructured and replaced with two different forums here, ones that are more constructive and closer to the ideals of the MIT Media Lab - thus worthwhile keeping and moderating. 

I'm a little confused as to why Misc. is being split up into sections... I feel like I or someone else has suggested this before and it was shot down as something that would create more work for the moderators... Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with the change as less spam-y topics will appear but I'm just wondering why you changed your mind.

The main difference is that misc was "open-topic" - meaning every kind of topic but stuff that was proven to be too flammable (politics, religion) was welcome. These two new forums are like the rest of the forums. If your topic doesn't fit, it's going to be removed. If you really want to talk about it, you need to make a project and create a conversation there.  So the new forums really aren't two new miscs - they're quite different.

It's a pretty big change, so I can understand why some may feel sad to say goodbye to the Misc.

No, it would need more moderators and it would be a waste of time for everyone. We already discussed that and it's not going to happen

XD, I suggested something similar back when Inspiration and More was in place and I was a Community Moderator; I did bring up a multitude of split forums back them like games, music, books, and such, but for simplicity's sake everything non-Scratch related ended up being lumped into "Miscellaneous"; but "Miscellaneous" wasn't intended to turn into some post-anything-here thread when the subject; it was supposed to be a place for creativity/positive discussion - and sadly it didn't turn out that way.

Part of it comes from the fact that Miscellaneous takes more time than necessary to moderate - it doesn't make much sense to have them moderate things unrelated to Scratch (let alone not really contribute to the ideals of the MIT Media Lab in general) when they should be focused more on Scratch-related aspects (helping out with Scratch Design Studio, giving input for new collab ideas and the welcoming committee, etc.).

It's possible to have just gotten rid of Miscellaneous outright without giving a place for creativity and fun outside Scratch, but that leaves the question about the non-Scratch threads that were more worth keeping since they were positive and creative; things like wiimaster's recipe thread, or my-chemical-romance's thread about chainsmithing, as well as the numerous threads about your favorite games and music. After some discussion, the ST came up with the two new forums to replace Miscellaneous (among the other badly-needed new structure changes  ).

Just keep Misc., and move topics to the other two new ones.

So technically Operation Delete Misc was a success...
