This coming Thursday, January 26, we’ll be making some updates to improve the Scratch forums you know and love.
* All the forums will be re-organized under new sections: Welcome, Making Scratch Projects, About Scratch, Interests Beyond Scratch, and Scratch in Other Languages.
* We’re creating a new forum called Help with Scripts, where Scratchers can post links to their projects and get help with scripting from other Scratchers. It’s similar to All About Scratch, but with more focus on scripting.
* Two new forums will replace the Miscellaneous forum:
* Things I'm Making and Creating - A place to discuss awesome stuff you are making outside of Scratch. Share things like stories, Minecraft servers, programs, or art you made with tools other than Scratch.
* Things I'm Reading and Playing - A place to talk about books, games, art, or music that inspires you. This would include books like Harry Potter, games like Portal, or something by your favorite musician.
* We’ll be renaming some of the existing forums to make it easier for Scratchers to find what they’re looking for:
* All About Scratch is becoming Questions about Scratch
* Troubleshooting is becoming Bugs and Glitches
* Sensor Boards is becoming Scratch in the Physical World
* New Scratch Members is becoming New Scratchers

What about the show-and-tell forums?
Maybe they're not changing anything with that?
Anyway, it sounds cool! It will definitely organize the forums better. I like the "Help with Scripts" idea.

Cool! Though I'm not that happy about Misc. being deleted, I'm glad that there'll be something similar in its place Will Misc. still be available to look at though? Or will it be deleted completely?

We'll archive it like the other retired forums, so you'll be able to view it by using the jump-to pull down menu.

Wow! Quite some major renovations! Considering the Scratch Forums aren't exactly as active as they used to, lowering the number of forums is a good decision IMO.
It's also a convenience that you're doing this all at once, not as a slow renovation that takes trial-and-error.
With "Scratch in Other Languages" -- it sounds like there's only going to be one forum for all non-english languages? An interesting decision -- hopefully no problems come up.
How long have you been considering/discussing these changes? Or were these all suggestions over a long period of time that you decided to support and pack into one update?
Good luck

Oh no - that's part of the post just describes the sections. All the Scratch in other languages forums will still be present, but they will be moved to the bottom of the page.

We've been needing to do a cleanup of the forums for a while, and have been discussing and refining these changes for the past 3 weeks. We considered waiting until the transition to 2.0 (still a long ways off, sorry guys. , but then there will be so much to do then, we thought it'd be best to take care of this now.

In the MIsc, they'll be archived (find them by the jump-to menu). If they fit into the new forums, you can request that they be moved once the change is put into effect.

Ah, I see. Didn't notice the word "sections". Sounds good then.

I run a minecraft server (if you've seen the thread), would it be OK to just remake the topic in the new forums? So it starts off with no replies again?

I think this will be a good change. While there will be a few missed topics from misc, it will make the quality much better as a whole.

Yep, totally fine (and in fact, that's a bit better than asking to move the thread.)

Awesome.
Miscellaneous just sounds uninviting - I like the new ones a lot more.
As for beyond Scratch, is that the AT?
Cause then we could have forums for Squeak, Java, Scratch mods, websites, etc.

Glad you like the changes!
Ah - no, Advanced Topics will be in the 'About Scratch' section.
It's kinda hard to describe these changes without just doing them. It'll be more clear on Thursday.

so all the modding/forum stuff will be in about scratch too? You think you could give a little blurb about each of the catergories? It will make it a lot clearer.

I personally think a UI update would be cool... (blue is nice, but squares aren't lol)

This is both sad and exciting for me.
Misc. has been alive for as long as I can remember. So, it's sad to see it go and be replaced with something new.
But on the other hand, I can understand how hard it must have been to control that sort of environment. So, I can definitely see hw the changes will improve the forums.
Also, I think we should have the option to change our theme's, since we each have our own tastes and it doesn't hurt anyone.

[rage] I agree with the changes to the other forums but I am HIGHLY opposed to the change of misc. and am considering a form of protest. Maybe not going on the scratch site on the 25th? I'll firgure it out. But, I WILL NOT tolerate the changing of misc. Reason with me as you wish, it will be unsuccessful. [/rage]
Or you could wait 'til 2.0 and I'll be happy.

For you, it may seem like a total loss, as it partially does to me.
However, think of the work the moderators and admins put into maintaining this community, and how hard Misc. makes that job.
