There is a flood that dissolves all the soap; the source of the flood (a crack in a mountain) is sealed up by the people but they realise that they have no way of getting water as a drought takes hold and they cannot unseal the mountain spring. ^^

i would just get my army of twenty thousand robots and set them into flying mode os they can drop missiles
but i like the soap god idea better

Dig down in the cave
Get redstone
Make redstone torch

Their economy goes bust because of a "soap bubble" (when soap's value is insanely inflated, and then crashes).
