The other day, as Year 9s we had to choose what options we will take for Year 10; in order to get GCSEs. Some bright spark running the school decided the options blcoks would be set up similarly to this:

Block 1 - Geography / History

Block 2 - Art / Graphics / Resistant Materials / Health & Social Care / BTEC Phys. Ed.

Block 3 - Food tech / Electronics / RE / Child Development / Exp. Arts

We can only choose 1 subject from each block. So THAT means that I can't do graphics like I'd initially wanted. ;__;
Before you say I'm being whiney; the inability to take the Graphics could affect my job prospects. To get into animation you pretty much need both Art & Graphics. ._.

So I have to do Expressive Arts instead :l

This is so annoying, has anyone else been choosing options recently & has anything similar happened to you?

Once conversation about how annoying this is dies down, discuss what options you would choose from my Blocks above. See how resticting it is for our school :'(

My 8th grade options didn't include taking a language, robotics team, and band all in one, like you could in 7th grade.

i had it once. I wanted to be and band or orchestra but i couldnt because when i came to the 8th grade, they said i couldnt join cuz i wasnt in it in 7th grade. The thing is they didnt have it for my school=-(

We were told to complain if we had issues but if I'm honest it'll do nothing. :L
Our school is USELESS.

We have to do IT, English, Math, Science, French, some Physical Ed... and some Citizenship. >.>

My school does that as well! And we're the only school in my county that chooses our options in year 8...

They also give us colour groups, that like, recommend what we should take. I'm in pink, which means they recommend that I do mostly academic subjects. Which means I have to take a language. And I hate languages! Surely it should be our choice as to whether we take a language or not![/rant]

And I can't even get into Art Survey (the most basic art class; you need it to do any other art class)

Whoa. Id say complain and just see what happens, you never know they might let you do graphics! (:

We have to do English, Irish, Maths and French.

Then you chose 3 subjects.

Im thinking of doing, Geography and Biology and then Im going to HAVE to do economics even though I hate it so much but its the only option left after I rule out all the others ;_;

I hate languages. We HAVE to take French seeing as our school is too cheap to get new teachers.

Both Art & Graphics are available, but they're in the same block so you can only choose one... :l
