Anybody who's seen both the old Spongebob episodes and the newer Spongebob episodes knows what I'm talking about. First, I'll talk about the older episodes. Spongebob was one of the best, if not the best, shows on Nickelodeon. The characters were completely original, the humor was great, and it became an instant classic. Just about everybody who's seen just a few episodes can memorize the whole Bikini Bottom layout (Spongebob's, Patrick's and Squidward's houses, the Krusty Krab, the Chum Bucket, ect.) As I sais before, it was a great show.
Now lets talk about Spongebob now. The humor has become stale, the plots are predictable and often unnecessary, and overall, the show itself has declined in every way. Every other episode will involve somebody getting their skin ripped off (not to say this never happened in the older episodes, but never this much). But the most gruesome episodes are the entire season 6. Its just disgusting. First there's the gross splinter episode, then you see more disassembling of body parts and showings of organs than probably all the other seasons combined. And I'm sure a lot of you will remember a certain scene involving a couch. I'm literally shuddering right now, just thinking of the godawful scene. I admit I do watch way more gorey things than I'm supposed to, but I can't even watch this scene without looking away or tucking in my toes. ugh.
In conclusion, Spongebob is way past it's time for cancellation. It had a good run up to, I'd say late 2009, but its really just time to stop. But there's a problem.
Nickelodeon is stuck in a position where If it does cancel Spongebob, Its practically nothing. It has no other shows to fall back on, and will just die. And if it doesn't cancel Spongebob, It will just just run it's way straight to the ground. The only way I could see it working is if Nickelodeon makes another show as good as Spongebob. But we all know thats never going to happen. I'm not saying the new episodes are bad. They're actually pretty good compared to the other shows ( So many unneeded CGI shows ). Its just time to pull the plug.
Who agrees with me?
I AGREE!!!!!!!!

Spongebob, I agree, has gotten a little more - mature - then the last episodes, but let's not forget the hidden gems beneath all the garbage. Take 'Best Day Ever', it had a great plot, good humour and in my opinion, it was great as the time it was made, the animation was smooth. So we shouldn't completely block Spongebob out. The writers might make another hidden gem!

Nobody should. If Spongebob is the only thing (in your opinion) that Nickelodeon can fall back on, why should they kill themselves by cancelling it? You don't have to watch Spongebob, you don't even have to consider the latest episodes 'Canon' since they weren't written by the original writers, just move on and stop bringing this up.

I wouldn't mind CITV in the uk closing down. It's just the free view version of Nick by showing every live action show on nick (And literally every darn one), and a terrible show called Fleabag monkeyface, which is nothing but really poor attempts at gross humour. That show has RRREEEALLLYYY bad voice acting, repeating plots, and worse of all
THE GROSS HUMOUR CAN'T DO fART JOKES CORRECTLY.

I've never actually seen and heard a whole episode.

Yea, the new Spongebob episodes suck, but it is about the only show left on there that is even remotely decent. Most of the shows now are the Adventure Time-type shows that have 0 humor to them, and make absolutely NO sense.
Adventure Time is the best show on TV.
I completely agree in every way C:
But, allas, not everyone likes it. Adventure Time has a certain humor that only certain people have a taste for. If you don't like it, don't watch it :>
ON TOPIC:
I agree that Spongebob has had it's run. If Nick wishes to continue, then that's their choice. Like you said, eventually, Spongebob will just plummet in ratings and Nick will have to invent a new show.
I just hope they get rid of all those stupid television continuations of formerly good movies.

TeenNick is pretty good, it has all the old shows like Drake and Josh.
Ho ho, Drake and Josh. Good times.
Yeah, I do prefer the older episodes of SpongeBob. Not that the new ones are horrible, but the older ones seem to have a more appealing atmosphere. I think they completely changed the writers after the movie, causing the humor in the show. to take a different direction.
A solution - hire some of the older writers, or, if that's not possible, hire new writers that match the style of the older ones.

The reason they canceled it?
Vexus's voice actor died.
Nickelodeon, I applaud your failure of a life now.
You can find a boatload of people to voice snobby gross idiots, but no-one to voice a [removed] alien lady? \_(>.<)_/
MLAATR? What the blargh is that?!

Uhh. Sorry, in my opinion, Spongebob is the worst, most disgusting, most horrifying kids show IN THE WORLD. I'm sorry, I just had to say that. Did you know that it was originally supposed to be for adults, but kids liked it too (most likely some freaky kids who thought skin being ripped off was epic)? And they did a test and the kids who watched Spongebob had worse grades.
my sis said it was meant for adults, too.

If there's one thing I hate it's trying to appear, somehow, like you have something special or more sophisticated about you for enjoying certain humor and implying only "some" can understand it properly. You probably weren't doing that, but eh.

I've been thinking about the low quality of 'cartoons today' and about two years ago I would laugh hysterically at watching the flintstones
But now I think it's stupid. And they haven't made that show for a while now.
The jokes aren't getting stale, people just like to make it seem that what they had was better, I'm a repeat offender but it's not that it got worse you just don't fall into the target age group so they're not going to try and get it to appeal to you

Eww, is Catdog that show where the dog and the cat are siamese twins? I remember that. Nightmare fuel. *shudders*[/offtopic]
I like Spongebob, but I don't watch it that much. I noticed that the quality of humor is worse, but I never thought of it as "disturbing".
Nick needs to make more episodes like the "Camping" episode.

CatDog was the best cartoon on Nick, besides Rugrats and The Ren and Stimpy Show.

Yes. Is that the one where Spongebob ends up half-destroyed because of an accident?
Remember the one where fleas invade Sandy's house? THAT ONE IS GROSS.
