I think it's rude to laugh at people in situations like that. I've always felt bad that they'd been convinced they're good enough to try out for a show of that nature, and it's pretty heartbreaking for them to find out in such a rush that they aren't really great when the judges just laugh in their face.
It's hard to be sure when people are being honest or not when judging something you seem passionate about. You could be a terrible artist or singer, but everyone you ask for an opinion doesn't want to tell you, and you falsely fall to believe you're pretty great.
So personally, yeah, I think it's terrible
