I believe you told it wrong.

I heard a riddle quite like that, except there are two doors guarded by goblins.  One lies, one always tells the truth, and you have to go through the correct door.  The other leads to certain death.
You can only ask one of them one question, you cannot ask the other anything.  What do you ask to go through the correct door?

The way you told it you could just ask them something obvious like "is the sky blue" and you would have your answer.

oh well I got the version of the riddle with the knight and the demon from a game called RE: alistar
