Stupid question but...

...what's a sprite? I have a weird feeling that I should know.

It's not a stupid question! A sprite is an object. It can have scripts, costumes, and sounds.

fileSo it is a picture separate from the background, that can move completely separately from the background and is not linked as a picture or movie but as a separate file layered on top. Am I right?  smile

yep! And you can make it do other things, too, like move and such.

Also,
Costumes are different images the sprite can have.  Each costume can be completely different or quite similar.
Scripts are the list of instructions that a sprite follows.
