I was an adorable kid, and everyone was enthusiastic about getting me into pageants (Much to my older and less cute sister's dismay)

My mother, however, had been in several in her young adult years and refused promptly. (Except for one and I got second place)

The saddest thing I heard on that show, however, was in a scene with a mother and her pageant daughter looking through the daughter's many awards

The mother picks up a sash the girl had won and, running her fingers through it, says, "Momma always wanted a sash like this..."

(Then the little girl proceeds to snatch it back)

The parents kind of just want their kids to be what they never were

Wow. That girl is HORRIBLE. That mother probably was one of the most civilized people there! All the others are insane, doing crazy things to get their children to win and if they don't win, they punish the child. They should punish themselves for forcing them to do it. Most of the ones who lose didn't even want to do it!

No. This mother did equally, if not more, crazy things. Her daughter just won a lot. Nothing in my post implied otherwise. She was just marveling at her daughter's award as if it were her own and, seeing how dependent her daughter was throughout the featured competition, it pretty much was anyway.

The girl wasn't terrible, just young.

I don't see where you're getting a lot of the stuff you crammed here into that post
