Video games are distractions I don't think kids in general cannot handle right. They aren't really productive and are overall unnecessary. I think legitimately educational ones are nice, though, because they aren't a complete waste. Complete-wastes of distractions don't do any good, I'd think, to a developing mind

Adults have reason for wanting distractions

Video games can teach you problem solving skills :III

Eh, sometimes, but usually not in a way that will ever apply to anything someone is going to use in their life.

And I don't think you start up a video game thinking "LOL im gonna take this knowledge from this game and applly it to reel lif lol" so I doubt most people even learn anything where there's something to be learned

Music, books, movies, board games, and pretty much everything is a distraction that is often unproductive. I think kids have just enough reason for wanting distractions than adults.

Books are infinitely more productive, movies are okay, music/art things are expressive
Board games depends but some are thought-provoking and decent. Puzzle games I'm fine with to an extent

Most video games just aren't anything

1. Saying that books are "infinitely more productive" is a generalisation. Explain.
2. How so? They require less activity than video games.
3. Yeah... but so is building structures in games like Minecraft

Saying that they 'just aren't anything' is crazy. Sure, maybe you don't have a taste for them but that doesn't mean that you should want to ban them for everyone. Video games can be artistic, educational, and expressive as well. TRAUMA is a great example of something that is ways is all three. And it's "productive" too.

I don't like books, and video games are more entertaining in my opinion.

Agreed.
Games can be VERY educational, and require a lot of brain power.

They have facts in them
You need those things for school

veggieman001 wrote:

Hmm. I take that one back, though some movies can have lessons quite more obvious and useful than those attempted to be taught in games. Most are equally silly, however

veggieman001 wrote:

I suppose, but that isn't really the basis of an average video game

I have "a taste" for some, actually, but that doesn't mean I think they're doing anybody any good. And I never said I wanted to ban them for everyone, just change the targeted audience for a majority of them. Video games can be artistic, educational, and expressive (Just about anything can be), but that doesn't mean they are

The problem with kids, from my firsthand experience, is they can't get their priorities very straight when it comes to this sort of thing. I'd rather suggest for frivolous things like games be held off until they can handle them

I'm also with you guys on the SSBB rating thing. It should be E10. If only Nintendo left out the blood on the hand. Then ESRB might go lighter on them (doubt it, though), and they'd get more sales, meaning more money, meaning better games for the 3DS.

It was almost rated M because of Snake being included in the game, so they stripped him of his guns and gave him his explosives and rocket launchers.

Re: What SHOULD Games be Rated(ESRB wise)

Battlefield is meant to portray a very real battle experience, and war is not rated T. :p
It is brutally graphic, and has a lot of M language, and I think it undoubtedly merits it's rating.

No, TF2 should be where it stands.  Great game, but it has blood, gore, moderate swearing, and somewhat offensive material.  One item mentions clubbing baby seals to death in style.

What the..

Okay, it stays where it is.
