Interface -extremely- slow on Mac

Hi all-

New user here. Wanted to see if I could program something basic I've been thinking about, but after loading Scratch on my Mac here, I'm finding that it's unbearably slow - dragging just 1 or 2 things slows it down to a near standstill.

I tried it at home on my PC and it's lightning-fast.

Any thoughts?

Mac is 2x2.66 GHz dual-core Intel Xeon running 10.6.7.

how much RAM?

Yeah - I have other stuff running. 10gb of ram though.
