Scratch

Yeah, Misc has been kinda gloomy and a place full of spam lately. I would kinda actually like it if it got deleted.

But the thing is, if you have a forum, there should be a Miscellaneous.

It's already been decided that Misc. isn't going to be deleted anytime soon.

I believe that instead of deleting it, better/more guidelines should be put in place. I think that instead of just posting stuff here, it should be related to Scratch, programming, or something related to technology and education.

I think people (and moderators) should realize that Misc isn't a place for topics not related to Scratch ( in any shape or form ) should be posted here. Topics should have at least a point to them. Games don't have any point to them, just their for entertainment and there is no learning involved.

In general, I think that Misc should be used for Miscellaneous topics, not "Everything Else". By that I mean that instead of useless topics, as an example "What did you get for Christmas?". It has absolutely nothing to do with Scratch or even the virtual world. It doesn't even have a huge meaning in the Real World. You got a new toy, how cool! is a little useless, as it doesn't provide any help or useful information ( except for stalkers ).

So lets just create topics with an actual meaning instead of just deleting Misc in general. If you want to chat about a specific topic ( "What did you get for Christmas?" ) how about doing it somewhere dedicated to that topic or on an "anything goes here!" forum.

That's the point, Scratch isn't an online community. Scratch is a programming language. You don't see people on the PHP forums discussing Christmas gifts, do you? Or the Java forums?

No. I agree with Magnie. Stricter guidelines should be put into place. Another thing is that I think they should disable post counts for Misc, as in if you post in Misc, your post count doesn't increase. Many people see it in their head to get a high post count. Since Misc is very loosely ruled, they post and post there. Thus, creating our mountain of useless topics.

Er, trolls don't go "I'm going to troll this site so goo- UGH, it hasn't got a misc topic".

Few things to say. First off, this is the whole reason for Misc. It gives users a place to post if it doesn't belong anywhere else. If you think it needs to be taken down because of useless posts, then all scratch needs is more moderators. Also, you may not see anyone talking about Christmas presents on the php forums because none of them are kids. Scratch is the only friendly comunity of kids. The reason so many people post in misc. Is because they are all just like each other. We're all probably around the same age, and all love programming. I've made severa  friends on scratch because of the misc. Forums. It gives me a place to go when I'm bored, or feel alone, and I'm sure other scratchers come here when they feel angry, or sad. There's just somthing about scratchers that are different from other forums. If the scratch misc. does go down, I may make my own forum for scratchers only, for them to post when they're bored, mad, sad, happy, or they want to just share with the world. If you think that the misc is getting out of controll, then maybe all it needs are more moderators.
